Is Obama hiding?

Here is President Obama caught “hiding” behind his Transportation Secretary.

Why is the President hiding? Any guesses?

  1. February 28, 2010 at 7:09 pm

"Is Rush Limbaugh still over there by the donut table?"

  2. March 1, 2010 at 3:23 am

Hardy Har Har: Don't you mean "Are we still between Rush and the donut table?"In reality, here is where that picture is from, when President Obama was going before the GOP gathering of House leaders back in January; you know, the one where he schooled them:)But to play Dave's game, my caption would be: "Alright Ray, you know these Republicans since you are one, maybe you can buy me a few extra seconds while I score a touchdown."

  3. March 1, 2010 at 12:30 pm

"Protect me, Ray. I just told Michelle she has to sit next to Joe Biden at the next state dinner."

  4. March 2, 2010 at 2:14 am

Obama didn't school anyone, especially the Republicans. All we heard from the president and his Democrat hatchetmen was the same old palavor and the same old sob stories. The Republicans provided a unified, coherent argument that a) the American people have rejected and continue to reject the democrat's version of health care reform, and b) Republicans have not been heard nor have they been even invited to be a part of crafting the boondoggle bills. Furthermore, if you actually watched the thing like I did, tort reform, malpractice reform and fraud, waste and abuse reforms, republican standards all, were said to be agreed upon by the Democrats as a means of being able to say that the Republicans and the Dems are "close to an agreement". Well that was a lie as born out by the fact that Obama, Pelosi and Reid immediately start talking about using hte "nuclear option" of reconciliation, a wholly and unholy unconstitutional act if they do it. Oh and did you see that Charlie Rangel is in hot water for his proven ethical violations for knowlingly taking corporate money in the form of carribean trips? He will certainly be forced out of his chairmanship of the Ways and Means committee. he may be forced out of the House altogether.Obama is hiding because he knows that his one-term White House of cards is coming down around his ears. Fact is that with all of the Democrat retirements and defeats, Obama will be a lame duck come November 2010.

  5. March 2, 2010 at 7:38 am

To paraphrase Mark Twain, "the reports of my death are premature."GO OBAMA!

  6. March 2, 2010 at 7:54 am

Shorter Big Tent: blah blah blah, Democrats bad, Republicans good, blah blah blah, "nuclear option" of reconciliation, a wholly and unholy unconstitutional act if they do it." That, my friend, is a total load of shit. First, reconciliation is constitutional, otherwise the Republicans could not have used it as many times as they have, including the three tax cuts signed by President Bush. Wikipedia link to the factual history of reconciliation.Charlie Rangel blah blah blah; Yes, he did violate ethical rules concerning taking corporate money; he will be punished- so? Is this "proof" that all Democrats are corrupt? HardlyObama one term blah blah blah … an nauseam

  7. March 2, 2010 at 2:05 pm

"Help me, hide me! Now that the US Post Office is cutting retirement benefits they are all coming after me"

  8. March 3, 2010 at 5:12 am

Bob, you are always the blah, blah, blah king around here. Reconcilation, as used for ObamaCare, IS unconstitutional because a) it ain't anywhere in the Constitution and b) it is for fiscal issues ONLY. All of the extra-constitutional agencies and czars that are a part of the final bills. Even Senator Byrd says that using reconciliation to ram through ObamaCare is NOT what reconciliation was designed for. When Robert Byrd says that the Democrats are wrong, that should tell you something and give you pause. But no, Obama and crew are running aground full steam ahead. Why are you not bothered by this? Why are you not bothered that Nancy Pelosi said that Democrats should vote for ObamaCare and reconciliation even it means the end of their political careers? Shouldn't something as supposedly good for America and the American people be something that should gurantee re-election and not election defeat? Why would she say this unless she KNOWS that Obama's nationalization of healthcare is a Bad, Bad, Bad thing for America and she KNOWS that Democrats will lose their majorities in both houses. But no, you don't care because you are too blind or too dogmatic, too ideologically biased, or just plain too stupid to understand what is going on.Here is a preview of Bob's response, and I quote: "BTR, more blah blah blah, Nancy pelosi sucks, blah blah blah."Spoken like the true brain dead sycophant you are. blah blah blah

  9. March 3, 2010 at 8:24 am

Tent: I must have struck a nerve, hey? Of course reconciliation isn't in the Constitution, because reconciliation is Senate rule, voted into existence in 1917. I guess that you think since it is not in the Constitution, it must be unConstitutional; by your apparent logic then, every single change in the rules governing how Congress works must be unConstitutional. Um, no, it doesn't work that way, no matter how much you stamp your feet and hold your breath. Since a change or two in how reconciliation works back in the seventies, reconciliation has been voted on many times by Republicans; just read the link. As for the whether or not the reconciliation process is being abused for the Healthcare Bill, read this from a former Senate parliamentarian. So, to recap, not too much blah blah blah, but there is some serious reading offered up; Tent, do you think you're up to it? There are a few large words, but you should be able to slog through the linked articles.Oh yeah, those three tax cuts rammed through via reconciliation and signed by President Bush, they were not supposed to go through that way according to the Senate parliamentarian who ruled against them doing so, so the Republicans fired him. Being a Republican must mean never having to say your sorry?

  10. March 3, 2010 at 6:18 pm

I would pay good money for a decent semi intelligent conservative with which to have a dialog with. Where are they?BTW Dave, good shows with Hospice and the folks discussing suicide prevention. Good people.

  11. March 4, 2010 at 1:55 am

First off:Against the nuclear option in general:Obama Hillary and othersObama is doing whatever it takes to get his votes. Abuse of PowerObamaUse of Props during this Obama announcementObama is a disgrace to our country and he is not MY president. If you only watch the first video, the democrats say it best. Love to hear your explanation Bob and other liberals.

  12. March 4, 2010 at 1:59 am

Read your links. First point: all were TAX reconciliation bills except for one which was welfare reform, which still deals with appropriated dollars. How is ObamaCare a TAX bill unless Obama wants TAXES to be levied, which he said he would not do. Second point: your article from the HuffPuffPo states a very ominous fact: Joe Biden can squelch debate, ram through the public option which Rachel Madcow last night said is now supported by 34 Democrat senator, all with just a 51 vote in the Senate. How is that good for America? Why, if Obama and the Democrats are on the moral high ground, do they need to use this trick? Obviously, the House and Senator are miles apart on this on everything from abortion language to funding from cadillac plans, medicare exemption for all states, etc etc. How is this good for Democrats where this debate lies? You can't answer this because you know, in your tiny heart of hearts, that it is BAD all the way around.Last question: are you a free thinking individual or just a sychophantic parrot? Right now you are just aprroting EVERYTHING any democrat says on the subject of health reform. Sad, but true.

  13. March 4, 2010 at 4:26 am

Say good bye to Charlie Rangel as Ways and Means Chairman. He was forced out of that position due to his ethics violations. of course, tht doesn't keep him from doing his old job from behind the scenes but it does remove him as the faceman/spokesperson for Obama's desire to take more tax dollars from the American people.Oh, and did you see the Postmaster General basically declare the USPS insolvent? yep, as he announced his plan to end Saturday service, replace humans with autmated postal machines, cut benefits and close offices. What's sad is that the Post office, the census, and the military are the only three things that the Executive Branch is specifically mandated to do and this administration has screwed up the first two already.

  14. March 4, 2010 at 5:58 am

Tent: You said you read the links, I believe you; did you notice the part about how reconciliation had always been about deficit reduction, not increasing the deficit, which the Bush Tax Cuts did, and that is why the Senate Parliamentarian ruled that they violated reconciliation rules and that is why they fired him. Did you read that? Did you recognize that the Republicans did what they wanted to, no matter what the rules were, so instead of following the rules, they simply removed the person who pointed out that they were "breaking" the rules? Don't you see how Republicans are the height of hypocrisy by now objecting to reconciliation? Of course you don't, because it is Republicans doing it, so in your world, that makes it okay. How about you, do you ever have any original thoughts, or are you just a right wing drone, a "ditto head", a soldier in the march of calling out those with whom your leaders to you to disagree with? Reconciliation deals with budgetary issues, specifically those that reduce spending and/or reduce the deficit, which the budget part of the Healthcare Bill does. But your marching orders mandate that you continue to repeat the lies that the proposed reconciliation is somehow dishonest, un-American and/or has never been done before, but those of us with our eyes open and able to recognize facts know that is not the "truth".

  15. March 4, 2010 at 8:22 am

Why is it that Republicans continually, knowingly, and eagerly promote policies that lead to the unnecessary deaths of American citizens? Opposing decent healthcare reform is just one example of the Republican Party's deep-seated homicidal tendencies. Promoting the war in Iraq is another. Unwillingness to embrace environmental protection measures is another. The list goes on and on.Is it any wonder that the Republican Party has become known as the the Party of Satan?

  16. March 4, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Well Winston, for a grand I will be more than willing to sit down with you and have a chat. But, with preconditions. Prior to the sit down, you must brush up on on your subjects. It's great to say I am for this and I am for that, but, lay out specifics on how we are going to pay for existing programs and President Obama's planned programs. Know what bankruptcy of the US could do. Without the preconditions, I don't think the semi intelligent chat can take place.

  17. March 4, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Hoosier, with all due respect, based on your past comments you simply do not qualify.

  18. March 5, 2010 at 9:47 am

bob, I ahve all sorts of orginal thoughts but you are too busy whining about what wrongs Republicans did then instead of worrying about the wrongs Demcorats are doing NOW. If the Republicans are so wrong, then why are you for Democrats doing equally as wrong things? You just don't make any sense my friend. How is ObamaCare going to produce 1 cent of deficit reduction? It is IMPOSSIBLE to add 30 million to government welfare roles (and "free healthcare is a welfare entitlement under Obama)P and have it "lower" cost? IT IS IMPOSSIBLE! How is giving every state ths same medicare indemnification as Nebraska going to lower costs? It can't because it is impossible. ObamaCare, as presented by the president the other day, can't even be scored by the CBO because, in their words, it was "too vague" to be scored. And you are saying that it is okay to pass through reconciliation because Bush and the Republicans passed the Bush Tax Cuts? How does two wrongs make a right? It don't. ObamaCare can't even prove that it reduces the deficit so your beloved parlimentarian is all wet with his arguments. I say "so what" to your argument because you obviously don't care about the fact that ObamaCare will utterly fail to reduce the deficit by one red cent. It will in fact balloon the deficit by $2.3 trillion. You like reading things, so read this article:WSJ: Paul Ryan dissects ObamaCareIt exposes the B.S. that is everything Obama has been lying about with regards to "deficit reduction". It is bullshit to claim you "lower" costs and that your plan is "paid for" when you claim 6 years of expenses against 10 years of tax revenues. And those medicare cuts? Never gonna happen because doctors everywhere will threaten to walk off the job if Obama forces them to treat Medicare patients and then cuts their reimbursements by 22% a year, every year. ObamaCare is a fraud and 12 Democrats have announced that they are "undecided" about voting for it in the House, where the House version passed by only FIVE votes. If Obama does get an up or down vote, the embarassment of having the one thing he has dedicated more energy to in his entire life, ObamaCare, get shot down in the one house of Congress that he has an insurmountable majority in. It could destroy his presidency in one House vote. But Bob the Obama Parrot is too busy drowning in Kool-aid to care.

  19. March 5, 2010 at 1:50 pm

I completely understand your hesitancy. Facts and common sense get in your way.

  20. March 5, 2010 at 8:59 pm

Quite the contrary Hoosier. Winston Smith easily trumps you regarding common sense, facts and just plain ol' decency and wisdom. His postings are also considerably more original and interesting than yours. One thing Mr. Obama is making clear to millions of voters is that future U.S. Presidents need to be considerably more progressive than Mr. Obama. But Mr. Obama is paving the way and it is certain he would be making more headway if it were not for the pervasive and deep-seated racism that fuels so much of his opposition. Let me make another of my bold predictions: Our next President will be white and at no time during the next 20 years or more will our nation have a Republican as president. The horrible record of Republican presidents has become too obvious: Nixon, Reagan, the Bushes. Party over!I can only imagine how many more U.S. citizens would be dying unnecessarily on a daily basis if we had a Republican in the White House at this time. Oh, the horror!..

  21. March 6, 2010 at 3:04 am

As bad as things are now one thing is for sure and for certain, McCain/Palin would have been a disaster. There is much work to be done so that a true progressive candidate has the chance of being elected in the US, unlike now where they are marginalized and not even allowed to debate. That, true campaign finance reform and other measures designed to get the money out of politics otherwise not much will change. However, as Simon Johnson, former Chief Economist of the IMF noted, the U.S. Government is controlled by a financial oligarchy. The Multi-Millionaires Club, also known as the U.S. Senate, is a part of that. Taxation policy reflects it.Economist Simon Johnson: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2009/05/the-quiet-coup/7364/The cons taught us to fear government…so we'd elect a government to fear…themselves. The Dems signed on to that to get elected….and did nothing contrary to the "fear" propaganda. The choice became Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum.When wealth disparities become too great in any nation, it slides into economic malaise. Even the most impoverished nation in the world…Haiti…has some very wealthy individuals. So does Mexico with its high proportion of billionaires and a destitute population. "Greed is good" reigns supreme in both of them. Both nations have an economic potential that is under-utilized to the point of being a crime. It kills people."The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." John Kenneth Galbraith – economist (1908 – 2006)

  22. March 8, 2010 at 2:05 pm

Best Movie: "The Hurt Locker" and it's female Best Director bot got awards…as the radical far left Hollywood elites tries to grab the victory in Iraq won by a brave military and a visionary President George W Bush. Where were they when we were fighting for freedom and democracy for the people of Iraq…oh ye! I remember…insulting our militarty and President and hating America. They make me sick!

  23. March 8, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Dan Rather said today (regarding Obama) "He's a bright person and articulate but he couldn't sell watermelons on the highway with a state trooper flagging traffic"MSLSD has scrubbed the internet but Rush has the sound bite as does Brieghtbart on big government blog.Maas says the healthcare bill is a scam…the left is tearing itself apart because Obama is such an enormous failure!

  24. March 8, 2010 at 9:37 pm

"Where were they when we were fighting for freedom and democracy for the people of Iraq…" TAPFunniest thing I have read in some time. Personally I would be happy with freedom and democracy in America, let alone turning Iraq into our personal gas station with the subsequent impoverishment of its people which always seems to follow our adventures in empire.

  25. March 8, 2010 at 11:10 pm

Hey Winston…why don't you ask the 80% of Iraqi voters that turned out to vote amidst suicide bombers and mortar shells aimed at voting stations…ask them how funny is what I said about their individual freedom and democratic government that George Bush was courageous enough to stand for along with an all volunteer military who went to accomplish victory for him. They are so thankful for Americans that stood for them to the end. Newsweek magazine, a known liberal rag recently ran a cover saying "Victory in Iraq has been achieved"…Ask Joe Biden who said on Larry King live that this victory in Iraq would be the highlight of the Obama administration" The nation laughed him off the stage for saying such an obviously stupid and untrue thing.True American Patriots, our brave men and women in the military and the Iraqi people do not agree with you about their freedom being funny. You are terribly deluded and your repressed anger seems to have cost you much.

  26. March 9, 2010 at 12:00 am

What gas, Winston? Where's the gas if that was why Bush invaded Iraq? The whole "no blood for oil" mantra from the Left is still, by far, the stupidest thing to come from you lunatics in a long long while.Well, maybe it is supplanted by the "adding 30 million to government roles will lower costs".That is the stupidest thing, but "no blood for oil" runs a close second.

  27. March 9, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Wise Guy, wise up. Winston has no answers!. He is for redistribution of wealth!. He does not care about the national debt!. President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and most Democratic representatives and senators are not liberals; they are leftists. And most Americans do not understand the difference between liberal and left. The left has never created wealth because it has never been interested in creating wealth; it is interested in redistributing wealth. With that being said, a debt that will negatively affect most Americans' quality of life, renders the dollar increasingly undesirable, and undermines America's prestige and power in the world — these developments do not particularly disturb the left. What the left really wants:is a huge government overseeing a giant welfare state and a country with far fewer rich Americans. I used to believe the right and left had the same goals for America, just different means to get there. Not any more. I believe most democrats have the same goals as me, just different means of getting there.. I believe you are one on those Wise Guy. The left has a very different vision for America and I do not like that vision. As far as your prediction, I don't know. I have no idea of race or gender. The one thing I do know is, whoever the Republicans nominate will be the next President of the United States. So, be awful careful of what you wish for (previous posts of wishing Sarah Palin would be the nominee).

  28. March 9, 2010 at 4:50 pm

The only thing less legitimate than the election process in this country is the election process in Iraq. There is no democracy in America and despite invasions and instigating overthrowing freely elected governments on 18 separate occasions, we have not exported democracy either. On the other hand we have exported much death and destruction in our quest to reward the corporatocracy. The wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are not just senseless and immoral wars, they are illegal wars, criminal acts committed by the hierarchy of the US Government. They are war crimes of the highest order and the decision makers who initiated the wars, as well as those who now continue to attack and kill, must be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. The wars are not only costing us financially to the tune of trillions, but the true expense of the wars is their cost in human lives. Does the Afghan family, just blown apart by US bombs, care about the cost to the US taxpayer of those bombs, those planes, those pilots or ground troops? The noble intent of so many posters to try to bring about revolutionary change through the electoral process is ill informed, ill conceived. The ballot box is owned, lock, stock and barrel by the entrenched powers that we are seeking to dethrone. The change will have to come from outside the voting booth. Use your imagination. Our soldiers are brave. And they have been lied too and manipulated as has been the case sense time immemorial to increase profits for the select few. They are not dying for our freedom, they are dying to increase the bottom line for KBR and Haliburton as well as the politicians who profit from such war profiteers.

  29. March 10, 2010 at 4:12 am

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/09/limbaugh-ill-leave-us-if_n_491536.htmlDave, I would like you to listen to this clip, and its context prior to Mr. Limbaugh's comment. It is clear that the going to Costa Rica is specifically for health care. You made this public about me specifically being incorrect. I would appreciate a public correction during the 6 o'clock hour again please. I even used the Huff Post for my source to please your left leaning tendency. By the way, Huffington post is lame as there already are private health clinics known to be top rate where people from Canada, Briton, and even the US go to receive excellent affordable health care today.Thank you, Travis

  30. March 10, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Now Wise Guy, read Winston's post. "The ballot box is owned, lock, stock and barrel by the entrenched powers that we are seeking to dethrone. The change will have to come from outside the voting booth. Use your imagination." Are you still a Winston fan. We have our differences. But, change outside of elections is not one of them (that is an assumption on my part). Winston, since when is stopping a person responsible for the murders of 1.8 million people sensesless?

  31. March 10, 2010 at 4:43 pm

Travis: I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I've heard the audio about four different times.Remember, please, that I defended Rush a couple years ago during that silly "soldier" flap. I don't try to pounce on the guy for no reason. But he said what he said — the debate is the context. Was he talking about leaving the country to live, or just to get different medical care? Personally I doubt that someone of his wealth has any trouble getting decent medical care, as evidenced by his recent episode in Hawaii. However, saying he'd leave for either reason is equally dubious.

  32. March 10, 2010 at 11:37 pm

Attempting to divide and conquer will come to no avail. Unlike those on the right, progressives are able to think for themselves (Encouraged actually) and reach different and individual conclusions.Rather than parroting universal right wing memes by rote, and marching in sync to the right wing flavor of the day, (Whether that be a person as debased as a Limbaugh or as crazy as a Bachman) progressives can neither be herded or controlled by the cult of personality. Progressives come from a position of moral clarity that can only be achieved by either being part of the dispossessed, or able to identify with same.To continue to persist in pointing out the minute differences between Democratics and Republicans is to have bought into the propaganda perpetuated by those at the top to keep us arguing amongst ourselves while they continue with the greatest transfer of wealth in American history. That's the true "wealth redistribution" of which you naively speak of.I've observed that rather than address what I have written or the points that I have made, the current MO is to derail, obfuscate, or engage in ad hominem sophistry.Still waiting for someone from the right to bring something of substance to the table. Still, we have much more in common than we have in differences. Some of you just aren't aware of that as of yet. Peace

  33. March 11, 2010 at 3:00 am

If you watch the clip, which agrees with the transcript on Rush Limbaugh.com, he was asked what he would do for health care. If, like in Canada and Briton, it becomes illegal to pay out of pocket of medical expenses, as long as there is no jail time he would pay the fine for not having health insurance. Then, to buy his own health care, he would go to Costa Rica or somewhere where it was legal to buy health care that you choose and not what is allowed and doled out by the Government. It is illegal to pay for your own health care in Canada, and illegal for doctors to accept money from individuals in Canada. That is why so many travel to the United States to not have to wait so long for important health care treatment. Think about it Dave, he never said he was going to move to Costa Rica to live. Thanks, Travis.

  34. March 11, 2010 at 6:53 pm

Sun Tzu, the famous Chinese military strategist and philosopher who wrote The Art Of War, said, "The clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy's will to be imposed on him." In other words, never give the enemy any advantage; therefore, never fight where, when, or how the enemy wants you to fight. If you let the enemy set the terms of the engagement, then you have already lost half the battle. This applies to politics as well as well as war. With this in mind, I must take umbrage to the use of the word "progressive". Since "liberal" is now not in favor among many, the left has taken up the more positive word "progressive". After all, who could possible be against progress. While many of us know that Progressivism has led to some of the most brutal, violent, oppressive regimes in the modern world, those who apply the term to themselves obviously do not see it in a negative way. The correct term should be "oppressive," not "progressive," because statist/progressive governments have to oppress individual freedom in order to force people to conform to the will of the state, which invariably just ends up in one form or another of enslavement, from confiscation and "redistribution" of earnings all the way up to gulags and show trials.Never give your enemy the choice of the field of battle by letting them impose their "verbal will." I do not want your vision of America. I want to be one of those rich guys you despise.

  35. March 11, 2010 at 9:25 pm

More re framing false stereotypes. Don't you ever tire of such nonsense?Obviously progressives have nothing against "rich" people. What we have a problem with is the rigged system which allows for the concentration of wealth to flow towards a few individuals on the backs of the middle/working class. That there are billionaires and trillionaires is obscene. That 400 families have more wealth than 150,000,000 Americans is obscene.30 yrs. ago there were few family dynasties and few billionaires, let alone people who sought to become so. Now the sickness of consumerism and greed as enveloped more people than ever before, at all of our peril."I want to be one of those rich guys you despise." HoosierExactly, I get it.Fortunately there are more people who are community minded, who believe in the social construct, than are consumed with such sickness as you espouse."Rise like lions after slumber In unvanquishable number! Shake your chains to earth, like dew. Which in sleep had fallen on you- Ye are many, they are few!"Percy Bysshe Shelley's "Mask of Anarchy."This was a popular chorus during the women's garment workers strike of 1909. You know, when workers, especially women and children were treated like chattel by their corporate over lords.

  36. March 12, 2010 at 2:41 pm

False stereotypes? Let's see. Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, with the rest of the EU right behind them. All progressive, all going bankrupt. Not so false I surmise. As far as wishing to be a billionaire 30 years ago, you are probably right. When I was growing up, everyone wanted to be a millionaire. Times have changed. Just like your 1909 poem. Our bottom 10% income wise would be middle or upper class in some countries today. There are no trillionaires. Slim is the richest person, and he is under 100B.And Winston, there are many people who make money that are community minded. Speaking of false stereotypes.I want to get one thing straight. I think some CEO's make way to much and I think the stockholders should revolt and "adjust" their compensations. Same with some of our athletes. Fans shoud revolt and stay away from stadiums untill these ridiculous 150 million dollar contracts become more reasonable. I do not think this is a job for the government to get involved in. I also do not want to see any company "too big to fail". Anti trust legislation needs to be enacted to prevent any single failure to cause alarm. In other words, no bailouts. Let them fail.

  37. March 12, 2010 at 5:25 pm

"There are no trillionaires. Slim is the richest person, and he is under 100B." HoosierWrong. There are several, actually more than several trillionaires.Don't believe everything you read, especially in Forbes.

  38. March 12, 2010 at 5:46 pm

"Let's see. Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, with the rest of the EU right behind them." HoosierTwo words. Goldman Sachs.Conservative/liberal are relative terms. When the Soviet Union collapsed, those wanting to maintain communism were considered on the right..conservative. Those opting for democratic institutions were called liberal…considered the left. "The Soviet Tragedy" – Martin Malia.Conservatism generally represents maintaining the status quo…whatever it may be. Conservatives in our own past didn't want to break with King George…they were against the American Revolution. In Scandinavia, when you are unemployed you receive 70% of what you were previously earning. So gee one would expect 50% of Norwegians to be sitting around waiting for the government to take care of them, but NO- unemployment in that country is 3.2%.According to the common wisdom that isn't, Norway should be in the pits…..it's social programs should be bankrupting business and the nation. Instead, it has a functioning economy, low unemployment and a sovereign wealth fund. The U.S., using "sensible" policy is in the pits with a deficit climbing through the roof and an economy in a spiraling meltdown. What we need to do is further cut our minimal social (wealth re-distribution) programs, reduce wages, and expand the military budget. Taxes on the wealthy should be cut to the bone Prosperous Scandinavia has it backwards. We have economics/social policy right, and will insist we have it correct all the way to the bottom. Ideology says things aren't as they are.Social democracies are doing quite well. We've a long way to go before we approach them. BTW, Sun Tzu notwithstanding, I am not the "enemy" and I find it fascinating that you would use the metaphors of war to describe me as such. We all have a common enemy. You just don't see it yet.

  39. March 12, 2010 at 8:43 pm

Hoosier is so naive, but typical of so many among the brain-washed masses. These are people who think Ronald Reagan was not a phony puppet figurehead and who believe that Forbes Magazine has some magic way of knowing the financial status of ALL the richest people in the world, and that ALL the richest people in the world would allow their status to be detailed and publicized in some magazine. Hoosier, my friend, when you're not dreaming about becoming rich, try using a little common sense. And it's obvious you don't have a clue what Winston Smith means when he uses the term "Progressive." Hoosier, I suspect your are sincere and mean well, but realize that your comments suggest to many of us that you epitomize the average citizen—a brainwashed pawn, so childlike in your naivete, yet so foolishly passionate, completely unaware of how much you don't know and don't understand, so caught up in your "liberal vs conservative" world view, unable to comprehend how much of an illusion that is. Winston Smith—who truly has your best interest in mind— has been trying to do you a favor by helping you wake up, but so far its been fruitless. You need to realize that so much of what you think you've "learned" is nothing more than an illusion you have been force fed..

California Unemployment tops 20% in eight counties! What the hell is going on?That number does NOT account for those that have lost benefits and those that have given up. Which means these numbers could be higher by up to 6-8%.What is the plan? Who is working on this?

  41. March 12, 2010 at 10:10 pm

    Name one.

  42. March 12, 2010 at 10:23 pm

    Name 2 trillionaires Winston…just 2…

  43. March 12, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Oh, and I know a lot about the Rothschilds and Rockefeller fortunes and their shadow economy. Those family fortunes will amount to well over a trillion. Their influence is waning though.

  44. March 13, 2010 at 2:04 am

Winston is using that old tactic of "many people". Its the old "straw man" argument. He claims that "many people" are trillionaires, yet he fails to name a single one.Come on, Winston! Why do you persist in making claims you can't, or won't back up?

  45. March 13, 2010 at 1:33 pm

Actually there is one trillionaire…Its Barack Hussein Obama who plays with taxpayer money as if it was his own money.Look at the way he is trying to give away more taxpayer money to give more bribes to congressmen to vote for his nationalization of health care bill.

  46. March 14, 2010 at 7:22 am

"Its Barack Hussein Obama who plays with taxpayer money as if it was his own money." BTRObama is a piker compared to Bush and Reagan but his giveaways to the corporate elite are abhorrent. But that is not the worst of it and conservatives criticising Obama for acting, well, conservative is fascinating to observe.Curious, where were all of these financially concerned individuals when Reagan, Bush, and Bush were spending more money than Obama could dream of. Being intellectually honest isn't the strong suit of many around here.Still, Obama should be impeached following the impeachment and trials of Bush, Cheney, and the rest of the Bush crime family. Not for fiscal impropriety of which they are all to blame, but for the continuation of following Bush's torture policy and all that that entails.Hoosier, try harder than the first hit from Google re: trillionaires in the world. So predictable. You guys play the role perfectly. Try something original, please. Don't cut n paste and don't mimic the latest e-mail from your many right wing mailers. Think for yourself. Write extemporaneously about what you wish to convey. No disrespect intended guys, but if this has been the best you can do, you really need to call in for the 1st string or quit altogether.Again, I'm not your enemy and please desist with the childish taunts. Our problems are more involved than the simplistic Dem vs Repug which you guys continuously focus on. Think outside of the box. I'll be rooting for ya. Peace

  47. March 14, 2010 at 10:26 pm

This becomes tedious after a while.Haven't seen a conservative yet who doesn't rant on about non-existent liberals in government being the cause of one crises after another…from the S&L meltdown, to the Mexican bond bailout to the S.E. Asia financial crises to the current mess. There were others.Every one of their conservative fiasco's bailed by the lower tiers…who receive absolutely nothing in return for their taxes…not even a pulled abscessed tooth. Outsourcing and dismantling of our economic infrastructure is just one more nail in the American coffin. As the economist Hudson stated, "the economic language has been turned into double think" in support of conservative ideology. A nation plunging into rapid decline is just one result of that nonsense. The war once feared with China has come and gone. China won without firing a shot. To the victor goes the spoils of managing its former enemy's decline in a manner that best benefits the victor. "What Do The Chinese Think" – Mark Leonard, Exec. Dir.. European Council on Foreign Relations. Patience is a Chinese virtue. It paid off. Conservatives hung us for the Chinese dictatorship and were so immersed in their ideology many didn't even realize they were doing it. Many still don't…..and some did and do know what they were doing. Judas's trading a nation and a people for pieces of silver. We have conservatives and their neo-liberal twins to thank for that. A bankrupt nation with an economy a mere shell of its former self. It's been shipped off. Yet, as former Secy of the Treasury under Reagan, Paul Craig Roberts notes, "perhaps the world will be better off with our demise". Perhaps people won't have to learn to wage a shooting war anymore. The global bully won't be capable of waging one. Its ability to prop up one dictator after another will be gone. It's transnationals will be on their own.The world perhaps owes conservatives a debt of gratitude for their stupidity. The American people will be the only ones to suffer. The top tier will ride the waves to their Swiss Chalets when the American people wake up.Far right conservatism has been the national curse. Look around you…just what is there to debate? The results are on every street corner…in every alleyway…in every prison…in every overwhelmed food bank…in every eviction…in every cemetery. How can anyone seriously defend that?

I hear-by hand over my "Best Anonymous Local Blogger" crown to….WINSTON SMITH!Congratulations, my friend! You had been on a roll as it was, but your 3/14/10 11:25 AM and 3:26 PM postings sealed it. Truer words have not been posted. I'd be interested in Winston's take on what drives reasonably intelligent, well-meaning Americans, like some we see on this forum, to mindlessly but militantly defend the scam? Is it the education system, or just general, modern-age functional anxiety/stress/fear insanity? The "crown", by the way, is perpetual, so you don't own it. New recipients will be honored when appropriate. .

  49. March 16, 2010 at 1:25 am

Winston is just another fractured thinking liberal. He hates everyone and everything. He is far, far, far from the best anything blogger. He rails against "Bush and Reagan and their corporate giveaways" and yet he is mute on Obama's campaign to give away 1/6th of the US economy to medical insurance providers with the insurance mandate. Where is Winston on the GM and Chrysler UAW bailouts that the American taxpayer will never see again? Winston thinks that Reagan and Bush were worse? How is that remotely possible? Obama has whored the American economy out to every special interest group and union that donates money to liberal causes. Obama plays the role of "The John" to the prostitues in the Senate, namely Mary Landreu and Ben Nelson. The hookers in Congress are not limited to those two. Democrat Congressional prostitutes lined up for fedreal "stimulus" dollars like it was Hollywood and Vine. Fact is that most of the so-called "stimulus" dollars went to districts, the ones that actually existed anyway, that voted for Obama. And the "stimulus" failed as represented by the INCREASE in unemployment from 8% to 10% this year. Winston is just angry and scatterbrained. It must be sad to hate so much. He can't even find any solace in Obama because he wants him impeached for being just like Bush. Must be pretty sad to be Winston or his #1 cheerleader, Wise Guy.

Wise Guy. I merely stand on the shoulders of you and DTB. You two have done the brunt of the work in addressing the far right and calling them on their BS while bogarting this site. I don't have near the patience of either of you.No disrespect intended to those of the far right who comment on this site, but it would be wonderful to exchange ideas with some serious people rather than exchanging one liners, ad hominems, and engaging in school yard like behavior. "I'd be interested in Winston's take on what drives reasonably intelligent, well-meaning Americans, like some we see on this forum, to mindlessly but militantly defend the scam? Is it the education system, or just general, modern-age functional anxiety/stress/fear insanity?" WGVery effective and decades old propaganda. I am in awe of the corporate propaganda machine. Offering the illusion of choice and democracy was brilliant. Just look at this site. Some of these guys just can't let go of the left vs right paradigm they have been programed to believe in. That they work for the same people who seek to enslave them is fascinatingA good read on the hows and whys of people who persist in certain belief systems despite all facts and evidence to the contrary is (The Authoritarians) by Bob Altemeyer, which is available on the web for free.

I have some free time, so I thought I’d drop by. The picture leading this string provided a chance to lighten up a bit. Unfortunately, the string has quickly devolved to the usual, general bashing of each other with little focus. One aspect, however, is worth noting:Both Winston Smith (“WS”) and Wise Guy (“WG”) have demonstrated intellectual arrogance in a manner quite common especially on the left side of the political spectrum.“I would pay good money for a decent semi intelligent conservative with which to have a dialog with. Where are they?” (WS, 3 March, 10:18 am)“Hoosier, with all due respect, based on your past comments you simply do not qualify.” (WS, 4 March, 9:06 am, responding to Hoosier’s offer to sit down and have an intellectual chat)“Unlike those on the right, progressives are able to think for themselves (Encouraged actually) and reach different and individual conclusions.” …“Rather than parroting universal right wing memes by rote, and marching in sync to the right wing flavor of the day,…” And the entire last paragraph in the same entry. (WS, 10 March, 3:37 pm)“More re framing false stereotypes. Don't you ever tire of such nonsense?” (WS, 11 March, 1:25 pm)“Hoosier is so naive, but typical of so many among the brain-washed masses.” “brainwashed masses” “…helping you wake up…” etc.(WG, 12 March, 12:43 pm)“Try something original, please.” etc. (WS, 13 March, 11:22 pm)“This becomes tedious after a while.” “The world perhaps owes conservatives a debt of gratitude for their stupidity.” (WS, 14 March, 3:26 pm)“I'd be interested in Winston's take on what drives reasonably intelligent, well-meaning Americans, like some we see on this forum, to mindlessly but militantly defend the scam? Is it the education system, or just general, modern-age functional anxiety/stress/fear insanity?” (Wise Guy’s laudatio to WS, 14 March, 7:42 pm)“No disrespect intended to those of the far right who comment on this site, but it would be wonderful to exchange ideas with some serious people rather than exchanging one liners, ad hominems, and engaging in school yard like behavior.” “Some of these guys just can't let go of the left vs right paradigm they have been programed to believe in.” (WS, 15 March 8:53 pm)Despite all of this self-assessed intellectual superiority, Winston Smith, you still could not identify a single trillionaire when challenged on that specific point. Who are they? The Rockefellers, the Rothschilds, the Bildeburger Group, the Illuminati? (Damned if it doesn’t sound just like a list of characters in a Lyndon Larouche publication.)Winston Smith: At the end of your 13 March, 11:22 pm entry, you call on people to “think outside the box”, a trite call to try something new even if you haven’t thought it through. Well, if you have to think outside the box, your box is too small. You go on and on about economic issues, but your Marxist-Leninist statements raise the question about how much you really know about economics. Did you ever take Econ 101? Can you read a balance sheet or a P&L? Do you know anything about accounting?Perhaps the discussion in this blog would be more focused and even intellectually stimulating if the blog topics involved more specific issues. In any event, humor doesn’t appear to be the forte of the more “intellectual”, prolific bloggers on this site.

Our Founding Fathers are rolling over in their graves right now as I write. Our Oligarchy, commonly referred to as the Reid-Pelosi Congress, is going to cram through health "reform" through the Senate bill through the House and then "deem" it passed in the Senate. Who in the hell do these people think they are? This is NO WHERE in the Constitution. The process is that first the House votes on spending measures and then it is voted on in the Senate. Because the Democrats are such chickenshits, and they know their bills will not withstand a Republican filibuster, they skirt the Constitution by trying to pass the Senate version. Why did Hamilton and Madison waste all that time, ink and energy by writing the Federalist Paper? Why didn't the Constitutional Convention just "deem" it passed since there were representatives of all 13 colonies? Isn't the Constitution a good for all Americans? The "deeming" rule should be sued in Federal court THE VERY MOMENT the Democrats try this unconstitutional and unethical trick to skirt the written law. The very concept of "deeming" a bill passed negates the very need for the existence of the Senate. Why don't the Democrats just shitcan the Constitution altogether and just adopt the British unicamerial parlimentarian system (the House of Lords is a rubber stamp;of course the Democrats would do without the "vote of no confidence" portion because Obama would lose that in a second). Hell we are already nearly there with 12 of our "candidates" for President coming from either the House or the Senate. You want to talk impeachment? I say that any Senator that supports "deeming" the bill to be passed in the House as already passed the Senate should be impeached.

Chris,It's no secret Dave has given up on this blog. He supported Obama, Obama has failed, so Dave runs. Typical lefty loon.Dave now spends his time "FaceBooking". He thinks he is cool, but he is just another Obama drone crying in his beer. He has given the blog over to a few far left whacks. SMBill and his ilk because the management and advertisers tossed his ass off the show…Dave felt bad and gave him the show. They even use Dave's ID. I know when it's Dave or not and lately he hasn't been coming here. SmBill is Dave on this blog that much we know. Thanks for your post. Your intellect was wasted I fear.

  54. March 17, 2010 at 7:22 pm

It's typical of Chris to try to dismiss cogent arguments by claiming something to be "Marxist-Leninist." How is that relevant? That type of hollow rebuttal is another example of the flimsy foundation underneath so much of the far-right's arguments. Truth is truth no matter who states it..
