Just wanted to take a moment tonight and thank everyone for their kind words and praise as we marked our 18th anniversary broadcast today. The show was solid throughout. Always good to have Lois Capps in the studio and North County Jim made an interesting debut in the final segment — we’ll have to add him to the regular mix. Looking forward to having Dawn Legg join us on Thursday and Sarah Christie on Friday. The whole week has gone well and I’m appreciative of being able to keep the job.
As I mentioned on the show today, I continue to be grateful for Mardi serving as my producer/call screener. It’s fun to work with her and Mardi brings a different dimension to the show. And I appreciate the support of El Dorado Broadcasters, who clearly believe in the importance of Hometown Radio.
Feel free to suggest any specific topics you would like to see us cover, either on the radio, or on this blog. Always looking for new voices in the studio, so keep us in mind.
I can’t think of a better job to have than to be a radio talk show host. However, there seems to be a major overhaul in the way we get our information now — those newspapers and magazines and books and even television seem to be going by the wayside in favor of all this new media. The average age of a Rush listener is 65. So we have a challenge in 2010 to remain relevant and be the forum for discussion on the Central Coast. That will be my aim. Thank you for all your support — even when we disagree.

Yes, congratulations, Dave. I heard the show yesterday and I hope you'll do more with North County Jim. Hard to get a peg on that guy; couldn't really tell if he was liberal or conservative. A real straight shooter, though.Been listening to your show since I moved over from Fresno in '05. Love your mix of topics and Hometown flavor. You seem very fair in allowing different points of view on your show. i don't know what reaction you've gotten, but I'm glad you're not longing using the extreme political guests. They get old after awhile.So Happy Anniversary and 18 more. Long live local radio!
I also congratulate you, Dave. Four hours a day on the radio and running the blog, both without a large back office, is one hell of a performance. We see only part of the hassle involved with the job. The fact that you continue to radiate excitement about what you do is admirable. I look forward to many more years of listening to your show whenever I get a chance.

How about you have a show about blogging, where you join in and give perspectives from this here blog and put what goes on here in some perspective. And get the moderator of the CalCoastNews forum to join you.What goes on here, as lame and embarrassing as most of it is, is, nevertheless at the cutting edge of modern communication. This silly "conservative vs. liberal" back and fourth blogging is going on all over the nation and yet analysis of the phenomena is scanty. You've had to put up with incredible stuff hosting this forum. Please tell us about it.

I'd like to be able to subscribe to the Dave Congalton podcast again, like I used to be able to. I don't see any kind of RSS feed for the podcast page, and there's no listing for the podcast in the podcasting section of the iTunes Music Store. I know, the podcasts can be downloaded directly from the website. But that's not as convenient as something that's subscribable.
Congratulations, Dave. After being a guest on your show, I can appreciate how hard it must be to generate 4 hours of interesting programming a day every day. Keep up the good work.
I have mixed feelings about the worth of this on-line forum, but having a local, community oriented radio talk show that does not push a particular religion or political viewpoint is a true home-town treasure.Not only are congratulations in order for Dave Congalton personally, so is acknowledgement of the incredibly long-run for a show of this type. This is in fact newsworthy. Shows like Dave's are a rarity on the radio and his accomplishment truly is deserving of wide recognition. Local orientation is the real unique value of having a radio station in the community.
I was unable to call in today on your segment regarding favorite guests. Here are mine… 1. Jeff Bliss – I agree with his political leaning but more importantly I find him to be very frank, cogent, and objective. He is not afraid to criticize the Republicans as well as the Dmocrats. I appreciate his intelligent perspective on the issues of the day. You have not had him on for a while? 2. Other favorites include Karen Velie, Anne Lorenzen, Jack Greene, our City Council members and County Supervisors, the Language Meister, and I enjoy and appreciate your coverage of the political candidates and ballot propositions at election time. This is a great public service. Times when I turn off your show… if topic is not of interest (rare), Santa Maria Bill, Michelle Dostier (though I am trying to be more accepting of her viewpoint), Dawn Legg. Thanks for the GREAT service you provide to our community! Happy 18th and looking forward to another year and many to come!!! You're the best, Dave. Don't know why you let that asshole Dagna post on this site, but focus on what matters. You've survived in a tough business for 18 years and your show is better than ever. Love you and Marti — great team. Just keep doing what you're doing. We appreciate it!
Dave: I think its great that you have been on the air for 18 years. I didn't really listen to talk radio very much until Air America came on the air. It was after listening to them that I really "discovered" you and your program, and I liked what I heard. Air America definitely is having trouble, no argument; I still listen to some of the programing on "the other station" that is not doing very well, but when I am in town, I pretty much always listen to your show. The show that is on the other station that has a local host is pretty sad; my wife has heard him a little and she thought he might be drunk; I am scared that one day he forgets his newspaper and doesn't have anything to talk about. I think you keep a pretty good mix of local and national issue, and you are very fair at attempting to keeping a balance of right and left viewpoints. Thank you for your show, and the work that you and Mardi put into it. Keep it up.
Radio Stations are licensed by the U.S. government to use the PUBLIC airwaves for the "public good". Rush Limbaugh using the stations' licenses to continually lie and purposely deceive listeners is NOT in the "public good".It is certainly unethical and harms the United States. Limbaugh is corrupt and is corrupting our nation on a daily basis.
