Prop 8

There are multiple propositions on the November ballot, but most of the attention seems to be focusing lately on Prop 8 — gay marriage. A “yes” vote on 8 means you’re opposed to the idea of gay marriage; personally I think it faces an uphill fight, especially given the expected dramatic turnout for Obama in this state.

We will be doing a couple radio debates on this important issue, kicking off Thursday at 5:30. Guy Murray supports Prop 8. Debbie Wheeler, who intends to marry her partner on November 1, is opposed. A second debate involving local religious leaders will be forthcoming.

Also, this Sunday I will be moderating a public debate on Prop 8 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 490 Los Osos Valley Road, in Los Osos. We’re set to start at 6 p.m. It’s free and open to the public. We will take written questions from the audience.

The advocates are Brian McHugh, an Episcopal priest, Mark Richardson (Trinity UMC) against Prop 8; Randy Nash (Los Osos Christian Center) And Ron Schmidt (El Morro Church of the Nazarene) for Prop 8.

Should be an interesting discussion. Hope you can join us. Hope that California will follow the lead of Massachusetts.
