Welcome Matt Donovan

We had a nice segment earlier in the week when Tom Madsen came on and signed off officially as my producer after seven great years of working together. The phone calls were non-stop for 90 minutes and I can tell you that Tom was genuinely moved by the tribute from his many fans. If you missed the segment, I encourage you to listen to the podcast on the web site when you have a moment. Our on-line library of old shows now almost goes back an entire year.

As we explained on the show, Tom will continue to participate in the broadcast from time to time, starting off as our official critic at large. Tom will sample local restaurants and plays and share his reviews with us. We’ll also give him a chance to come in and mouth off on those issues that really bug him. He’ll keep posting on the blog too as Thomas W.

I would reinforce that Tom emphasized on Wednesday that his decision to leave KVEC had nothing to do with the new owners; he didn’t know about the sale until that night. By the way, we’re still owned by Clear Channel at least through October 1st, so there will be absolutely zero changes in programming for a couple more months. End of conspiracy theories, please.

Meanwhile, a huge Hometown welcome to our new producer/call screener Matt Donovan. Matt has come home to KVEC once more; he was our production chief back in the Chorro Street days. Matt is a heck-of-a-nice guy, a production wizard and the man of 1000 voices. We’re easing him into the new routine, but hope to incorporate his many skills into the show as we progress. Please welcome Matt as you call into the show. Thanks!

Matt, welcome and good luck until October!
FYI…keep your eye on Monser.com for jobs that begin when the new owners take over then shut it down and go 100% satalite & syndicated!
It’s all about the money guys…don’t be fooled.
If you think I’m wrong, ask yourself this” Do you love hometown radio so much that you’d work for free? If not than why should the owners dump thousands into something they could make a profit on.
They won’t let this liberal drivel continue. You’ll see. I just hope you’re smart about the reality. Why buy it and not change it?

I heard Dave say on the radio that he is under contract to 2009. We’ll have Hometown Radio at least that long.

Why be so afraid of new owners? Clear Channel actually ADDED an hour to Dave’s show.

Hi, Matt. Welcome! You’re doing a GREAT job.

Contract? Publish it! Let’s read the fine print! New owners are never bound by contracts signed by the old owners…
    Business 101…

I don’t know where Mr. Anonymous took Business 101, but he’s obviously not listening carefully to KVEC.

The commercial breaks in Limbaugh and Hannity, especially Hannity, are public service announcements. These aren’t paid sponsors, but all the crapola about not smoking and avoiding unprotected sex and joining the Peace Corps. It’s basically filler and the station isn’t making a dime off that stuff.

But if you listen to Dave’s show, it’s completely sponsored and by mostly local businesses. No surprise, but local radio brings in the money.

So why would new owners want to tamper with the source of revenue for the station? If money is their bottom lline, they’ll dump syndicated shows and do more local.

“If money is their bottom lline, they’ll dump syndicated shows and do more local. “

hahahaha! Yea! Just like 90%+ of radio stations in America! Hundreds if not thousands of local talk!

    hahahahaha

Grab your neck firmly and yank! It should dislodge it from the sand.

    Hi Dave,

I wanted to call in to wish Tom farewell but didn’t get a chance to do that so please let him know his familiar voice will be missed.

I really wanted to let him
“take the rest of the night off!”

    Thanks, Neal

    Tom,

Best of luck on your new endeavors. Matt, welcome. Dave, I hope nothing of critical substance changes on your show. We need hometown radio more than ever.

    Best.
