Iraq Veterans Against the War

OK, let’s start a separate thread just on this topic, because if nothing else, the last thread proves that conservatives DEFINITELY are not funny. There seems to be way too much confusion and misinformation taking place.

Thanks to Dawn Legg for calling in tonight and clarifying what’s happening on Thursday. To update:

Members of IVAW are coming down from Washington state on Wednesday night and will be around at least through Friday. They will be speaking in local high schools, appear at San Luis Farmers Market on Thursday night and be on my show from 4:30 to 6.

They are not being paid for any of their appearances. Iraqi Veterans Against the War subsists solely on donations. No organization has paid a fee to them; KVEC has certinaly not paid a fee to them.

The IVAW visit is being hosted by Code Pink and other anti-war groups on the Central Coast.;

So, why don’t you tune in at 4:30 on Thursday and hear what these soldiers have to say?

Meanwhile John McCain came out today and stuck it to Donald Rumsfeld, calling him one of the worst Secretaries of Defense in history. Sounds like we’ll have plenty to discuss.

One program note: Arroyo Grande Andy has had to bow out of Tuesday’s show, but he will be on in March.

It’s a free country. Anyone who has served his or her country has earned the right to be heard. I’ll listen on Thursday, then decide.

Code Pink encourages counter-recruitment in opposition to U.S. military recruitment in schools and at recruitment centers

    February 20, 2007 at 8:20 pm

As someone who has served his country and served his country in Iraq, I find the practice of “counter-recruitment” reprehensible. Military recruiters have a hard enough job getting their foot in the door with potential applicants and overcoming the objections of prospective recruits and their parents without dealing with the empty-head propaganda that these anti-military “counter-recruiters” spew. I say “spew” because I heard Dawn Legg last year and she totaly misrepresented several clauses of the standard DD Form 4/1 military contract to include the paragraph where it talks about amending a soldier’s contract without their prior approval. Bottom line is that Code Pink is anti-military and are therefore anti-American with their actions. I have nothing but contempt for how they are chosing to utilize the 1st Amendment priviledge that my friends died to protect for them.

  4. Bob from San Luis
    February 20, 2007 at 9:02 pm

Rich: Okay, you have a problem with counterrecruitment; I can understand that since you are a veteran and by all accounts your service went fairly smoothly. The current laws that were enacted with regard to “No Child Left Behind” gives the military recruiters more access to high school students than they ever had before. If the military recruiters would give an honest picture of what military service could be like, perhaps there would be no need for counter-recruitment. Treatment of wounded veterans is something that is not readily discussed by recruiters, I would assume. The way our government treats veterans is shameful in many ways, and that should be of consideration for any person looking at the possibility of military service. The main abuse of the troops that angers me though is when President Bush stands before a background of military troops claiming to be a proud defender of the troops, but then has his administration looking to cut funding for the VA, not giving enough monetary assistance to the lower ranks when they are on leave and can’t afford to travel commercial airlines to get home. If our military is to be supported by the citizens, why haven’t our leaders asked for us to help our troops? Dave has had the gentleman on who has taken on the role of sending “care packages” and he is deserving of everyone’s respect for his efforts. He asked why there is not more support shown by the average American; none of our leaders has asked us to. President Bush even went so far as to state that “the best thing Americans can do to support the “war” effort is to continue to go shopping”. My assumption here is that it is too embarrassing for this administration to admit that our troops are not getting what they need, and that would amount to an admission of the Bush Administration “failing”, and if there is one thing this administration cannot do, is to admit that they have ever been wrong or they haven’t done the right thing.
So, Rich, Jerry, and anyone else who has a problem with this group coming to San Luis to talk to high school students, why don’t you come up with a counter-counter recruitment effort? If the counter recruiters are inaccurate, furnish the correct facts. If they are demeaning those who are serving, point that out. If they are making statements about how they were treated, what they experienced and how they are coping, listen to them without prejudging them, please. Jerry, if you have any factual information about what you think is their agenda or perhaps who is supporting them financially, please share that with us. If you have solid facts, your information can be investigated and discussed here, instead of you simply making assertions.

If we had no military, and were attacked, the liberal anti-troop folks would be the FIRST to complain that no one was protecting them after an attack. Be careful what you wish for.

  6. Bob from San Luis
    February 20, 2007 at 9:25 pm

Here is the article that I meant to link to about the treatment of the wounded troops at Walter Reed Hospital. If military recruiters were required to give copies of this article to those they were trying to sign up, perhaps our wounded veterans could be treated better.

anonymous: I am not asserting that we don’t need a military, but since we spend more on our military than all other countries combined, we need to take care of those who do serve. If military recruiters had to comply with truth in advertising, there would be another reason that counter-recruiters wouldn’t feel the need to get out their message.

    ..Major Announcement..

Melanie Morgan – Move America Forward

We have some exceptional news to report – read on for details…

As you already know, Move America Forward is about to launch a major advertising campaign to rally support for our troops in Iraq. We’ve told you for several weeks now that we were working to put together a grassroots component to support this effort – and now we have a major announcement to make.

We have learned that anti-war protestors have been desecrating war memorials and now in some isolated instances publicly denouncing/insulting returning Iraqi war veterans. On Saturday, March 17th, Cindy Sheehan, Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark will lead a giant anti-war protest in Washington, D.C. – disgracing the war memorials there as they march to the Pentagon. A massive anti-war crowd is expected – March 17th is after all the 4th anniversary of the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Move America Forward http://www.moveamericaforward.org is proud to announce that we will be fighting back against all this negativity and disrespect towards our troops with a positive and patriotic national effort titled: “THESE COLORS DON’T RUN”.

MAF will lead a national caravan of vehicles and supporters from California across the nation to Washington, D.C. Heading up the caravan will be Gold Star Parents who lost a child in the war on terrorism, Blue Star Parents who have a son/daughter serving in the war effort, or veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

We are putting out the word to all Americans to join us for this national show of support for our troops – and at each stop along the way conducting a patriotic pro-troop rally where we will be collecting American flags from rally participants.

We are putting out the call for children in schools to make homemade flags to be brought to these rallies. We are asking for those who are good at knitting or sewing to make homemade flags. We are asking families to bring a flag that has sentimental value or a patriotic story behind it to these rallies. Or simply buy a flag, bring it to the rally so we can add it to the collection of flags heading for the big Washington, D.C. event!

At each rally we will collect the flags and pack them in the trucks in our caravan and then bring them to Washington, D.C. where we will surround these war memorials in a giant sea of red, white and blue – and where we will conduct our final and largest pro-troop rally in Washington, D.C. – on March 17, 2006 – opposite the major anti war protest.

When the rally is completed we will send each flag donated to the effort to a unit serving in Iraq and Afghanistan with a placard explaining the story behind the national effort that brought this flag of support from the United States, overseas to our troops serving in the war on terrorism.

This will be one of the most ambitious efforts we have ever undertaken at Move America Forward. We will need your support for this positive, uplifting and patriotic event.

In the coming days we will be reaching out to coordinate our efforts and offer support to such fine organizations as Free Republic, Vets for Truth and the “Gathering of Eagles ” project and participating veterans groups to make sure that there is a vibrant and patriotic effort from coast to coast.

We will be posting our planned route and stops at the Move America Forward website: http://www.moveamericaforward.org

Check your emails and the MAF website for more specifics on this national caravan and information on how you can join along in your own vehicle; we’ll have additional information on our pro-troop rallies, and also helpful suggestions on how you can contribute a flag to this historic event.

Thank you as always for your support of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families – they need our backing now more than ever!

    Fondly,

    Melanie Morgan
    Chairman, Move America Forward

P.S. Forward this message on to others to help spread the word about this patriotic effort!

Move America Forward is a non-partisan, not-for-profit charitable organization committed to supporting America’s efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Contributions are tax deductible.

Bob, I hear what you are saying and I agree with your (shock and awe!!) assessment of our VA system. Keep in mind though, that the VA system was broke all the way back to Vietnam (remember “Born on the 4th of July”?) and every administration since has neglected the wounded veterans. So no argument there. What troubles me is that you actually need Bush to ask you, pretty please with sugar on it, to support the troops. Does Bush need to ask you to not litter or to take out the trash or to wipe your ass? It should be instinctive that you would want to help people who are doing the job you and 97% or America doesn’t want to do. Why should he or anyone else have to ask you to support them? That astounds me. The internet is repleat with website after website of good hearted individuals trying to help our troops and you have to be asked? Holy shit! What kind of freaking country am I living in where you have to be asked to support our troops?!?!? I thought all you liberals already “supported the troops but not the mission”? So now Bush has to ask you to donate as well? You people (all civilians with no prior military service) frustrate me to no end. You claim to be for all the troops then you counterrecruit because you think that there is some failing in the system instead of addressing the problems in the first place. If the treatment of veterans is your issue, get Lois Capps off her dead ass and get her working on the problem. Oh, but I forget: that would require that you all to actually do something productive except bitching and moaning about how bad everything is. Capps has been there how long and been reelected how many times? You called Bill Thomas’ office how many times with this concern of yours?

Military recruiters, by and large, are the most scrutanized, inspected, complained about and overworked and underappreciated servicemembers in the entire ARmed Forces. 99.999999999999% of them have no choice but to be brutally honest with their prospects because the nightly news has every bomb blast and casualty report coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan. They tell them that military service can get you killed, but they shouldn’t have to. You are a freaking MORON if you don’t know that a profession where people shoot at you can get you killed. Frankly, if you are that freaking stupid, I don’t want you defending my country because you could get an intelligent, fully function member of my armed forces killed. Code Pink goes out of its to propagandize, either in ignorance or out of a coordinated agenda, to LIE about my Armed Forces. Finally, when is the mainstream media going to do it “truth in advertising” by reporting good news stories about my military? When is Code Pink going to do their due diligence by telling the TRUTH about how military recruiting really works instead of their anecdotal bullshit that they trumpet everytime they are on Dave’s show?

Have to ask you to support the troops? What kind of bullshit is that?

HERE IS THE TRUTH YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CODE PINK:

    CODE PINK LEADERSHIP:
    1) Medea Susan Benjamin

Medea Benjamin was born in 1952 with the name Susan Benjamin.
She lived in Cuba with her first husband, who was the coach of Cuba’s national basketball team while she wrote for a Cuban newspaper. According to Ms. Benjamin, the communist social and economic structure fit well with her political views. She is currently married to Kevin Danaher. Communist, Marxist, and Socialist doctrine and hatred for America run deep in Medea Benjamin, Kevin Danaher, and the rest of this group. Once this fact is accepted, it is easy to see the direction of this organization… Anti-American, Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Liberty, and Anti-Freedom.
    *******************************
CODE PINK considers the American Military to be the enemy. During the last week of December, 2004, Medea Benjamin announced in Amman, Jordan, that Global Exchange, CodePINK, and Families for Peace would be donating a combined total of more than $600,000 in medical supplies and cash to the terrorist insurgents who were fighting American troops in Fallujah, Iraq with the full knowledge and consent of Left-wing Congressman Henry Waxman, D-CA.
    *******************************
Medea Benjamin is co-founder of both CodePINK and the San Francisco-based human rights organization Global Exchange and she is a member of other organizations with strong Marxist agendas such as Progressive Democrats of America

    2) GAEL MURPHY (From the CodePINK website)
Gael Murphy, one of the co-founders of CodePINK, was born in Paris, “France” on February 10, 1954. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, and Masters Degrees in African Area Studies, Public Health and Fine Arts. Ms. Murphy worked in Africa and the Caribbean as a public health advisor specializing in maternal and child health between 1975 and 1997. For the past seven years, Ms. Murphy has served as a grants evaluator and committee chair within the Threshold Foundation. Active in the peace and justice movement, Ms. Murphy serves on the executive committee of CodePINK: Women for a Peace. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Occupation Watch Center and a steering committee member of United for Peace and Justice. A resident in Washington, DC, Ms. Murphy has traveled extensively and has lived in Africa and Europe. Currently, Ms. Murphy is documenting social justice issues and women’s activism in the United States and the Middle East.

Under the leadership of Gael Murphy, CodePINK has traveled to Iraq where they helped to establish the “Occupation Watch Center” that exists to undermine America’s action against insurgents and enemy combatants.

    3) JODIE EVANS (From the CodePINK website)

Jodie Evans, co-founder of CodePINK has been a community, social and political organizer for the last 30 years.

    Her famous quote is:
    “WE HAVE NOTHING AGAINST COMMUNISM.”
(At a speech at “Shut-up-athon” at Fox News’ headquarters in New York City at 6th Avenue at 48th Street, August 31, 2004)

    4) MIRIAM SIMOS A.K.A. “STARHAWK” (From the CodePINK website)

Miriam Simos (who later took the name “Starhawk”) was born on June 17, 1951, in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1982 she received a Master’s degree in “Feminist Therapy” at Antioch University West.

Miriam Simos a.k.a. “Starhawk” a practitioner of feminist Wicca (witchcraft) in the United States. As a bisexual feminist witch living in Berkeley, “Starhawk” is a veteran of many anti-American movements, from anti-war to anti-nukes.

She runs a website that contains one Israel-bashing, Arab-loving essay after another. It is easy to see from this website why she sides with the likes of al-Qaeda and the rest of Radical Islam and the enemies of America. After reading this website, it is easy to see that she and CodePINK pose a serious threat to America.

    THE CODEPINK AGENDA:

In 2006 the far-left group, Code Pink, carried a sign that called for a Bush assassination.

Medea Benjamin and the rest of the ladies of CodePINK are openly aiding the terrorists that are killing both American soldiers and Iraqis. By doing this, she encourages Islamic Terrorists to continue the killing. It makes you wonder if some of the financing that CodePINK receives comes from al-Qaeda, HAMAS, or Hezbollah just to weaken America. (Thus Marilyn’s support!)

Here is how they work! The donation money comes from anti-American groups to CodePINK where it is converted into the much-needed supplies that go back to city of Fallujah in Iraq and directly into hands of the terrorists. And all with the blessing of CodePINK.

CodePINK is just another group of anti-American protesters with very strong Communist and Marxist beliefs. Like all the other so-called “Peace Activists”, they always seem to be part of the problem and never part of the solution. They seem to spend a considerable amount of time causing traffic jams and shouting their anti-American rhetoric calling our soldiers “Killers” and “Occupation Troops” with total disregard for the people that these actions affect. They do everything they can to divide America and never anything to unite America. They thrive and exist on any conflict that enables them to cause problems for others. It is how they get attention. After all of their disruptive antics, then they ask for donations. Like many, if not all of these groups, donations always seem to be used to cover administrative costs, salaries, and for causing the problems previously mentioned while never actually solving the problem at hand. It is never money well spent.

CodePINK is fundamentally a sexiest organization. Men are allowed, but they had better know their place. Let’s face it, Medea Benjamin, Gael Murphy, Jodie Evans, and the rest of the women at CodePINK’s main office are not going to stand by and allow a male to tell them what to do. They would certainly scoff at the idea of a male holding any kind of position of authority over a woman.

When you take a closer look at the leadership of CodePINK, you can see that it is comprised of nothing more that a bunch of rich white women trying to make their lives seem important by railing against America and engaging in protests reminiscent of the 1960s.

“Hip to the fact that well-behaved women rarely make history, Diane [Wilson] has already inspired a new movement of totally uncontrollable, irresistible and unreasonable women!
    — Medea Benjamin

Code Pink leader Jodie Evans, in a blog posted from the World Tribunal on Iraq, today gave her open support to the terrorists in Iraq who are killing American soldiers and Iraqis

While some may wonder, “is this news?” it is, indeed. Code Pink has been very careful over the past three years to maintain a front of being a peace group. In fact, it’s complete name is Code Pink Women for Peace. The veil slipped when co-leader Medea Benjamin shot her mouth off in Jordan last December when she proclaimed the group was giving $600,000 in cash and aid to the families of “the other side” in Fallujah.

Rich: I do remember “Born on the 4th of July” and I know that the VA has always been the neglected step-child of military spending, but the administration of George W. Bush has been the single most hostile towards our veterans ever.
    Cases in point:
Bush Administration cuts $1.5 billion from military family housing. The Bush Administration cut $1.5 billion for military family housing, despite Department of Defense statistics showing that in 83,000 barracks and 128,860 family housing units across the country are below standard. (“Nothing But Lip Service,” Army Times, June 30, 2003; “House Appropriations Committee Approves $59.2 Million for Ft. Hood,” U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards Press Release, June 17, 2003)

Bush Republicans support millionaires instead of military veterans. Bush allies in Congress stopped efforts to scale back the tax cut for the nation’s millionaires by just five percent – a loss of just $4,780 for the year – in order to restore this funding for military family housing. (“The Tax Debate Nobody Hears About,” Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration underfunded veterans’ health care by $2 billion. The Bush Administration’s 2004 budget underfunded veterans’ health care by nearly $2 billion. (“Vets Health Low on Bush’s Priority List,” The Hill, September 17, 2003; “Support for Troops Questioned,” Washington Post, June 17, 2003; U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, September 2002)

Bush Administration proposal would end health care benefits for 173,000 veterans. More than 173,000 veterans across the country would be cut off from health care because of Bush Administration proposed budget cuts and its plan requiring enrollment fees and higher out-of-pocket costs. (“Support for Troops Questioned,” Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration budget cuts force more than 200,000 veterans to wait for health care. Over 200,000 United States veterans have to wait more than six months for a medical visit because of health care shortages. (“VA Health Care Funding Alert,” Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Press Release, January 31, 2003)

Bush Administration opposed plan to give National Guard and Reserve Members access to health insurance. Despite the war efforts of America’s National Guard and Reserve Members, the Bush Administration announced in October 2003 its formal opposition to give the 1.2 million Guard and Reserve members the right to buy health care coverage through the Pentagon’s health plan. One out of every five Guard members lacks health insurance. (“Bush Opposes Health Plan for National Guard,” Gannett News Service, October 23, 2003)

Bush Administration cuts $172 million allotted for educating the children of military personnel. The Bush Administration’s 2004 budget cut $172 million of impact aid funding. Impact aid funding assists school districts by making up for lost local tax revenue from tax-exempt property, such as military bases. These education cuts will especially affect school-age children of troops serving in Iraq who reside on military bases. (“Support for Troops Questioned,” Washington Post, June 17, 2003)

Bush Administration tax cut denies military families increase in child tax credit. The families of 262,000 children of military personnel do not receive the child tax credit increase because the plan fails to cover taxpaying families with incomes between $10,500 and $26,625. According to The Washington Post, the House version of the Bush Administration plan “wouldn’t help many of those serving in Iraq.” One solider who will not benefit is Army Specialist Shoshana Johnson, the soldier and single mother who was wounded twice in the same convoy as Jessica Lynch. (“Ex-POW’s Family Accuses Army of Double Standard on Benefit,” Washington Post, October 24, 2003; “The New Senate Child Credit Legislation – What It Does and Does Not Do,” Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, June 25, 2003; “Whose Child Is Left Behind,” Children’s Defense Fund, July 23, 2003)

Do you see a pattern here? All but two of these citations are from after the US invaded Iraq. Support the troops? This administration? Where is the proof that President Bush even cares about the veterans of this country? If President Bush really supported our military men and women, they would have had everything they needed to complete the mission in Iraq and Afghanistan. “You go to war with the army you have, not the army you wish you had”- body armor, up-armored humvees, helmet liners, rations, clean water, beef jerky, “under armor” t-shirts, etc, etc; if President Bush really supported our military men and women he would have asked the companies that make these goods to ramp up production and provide them to the military at near cost and offering offsetting tax breaks for those companies. When I spoke of “being asked to support the troops”, what I did a poor job of was implying that we Americans have not been asked to sacrifice anything to support the troops. On the previous thread someone wrote about how the country banded together to sacrifice to support the “cause” of WWII and how America stepped up and delivered the goods. My point is that this President started this war on his time table and was not prepared for the aftermath of the invasion. The planning may have been there, but when you have your SecDef telling his staff of generals that “the next person who says we need to have a plan gets fired”, you know that the execution was flawed because there were no plans or they were abandoned. Production of the materials needed for our troops safety and comfort should have been ramped up so we could have “gone to war with the army we wished we had.” This post is getting too long, I’ll come back to address other points soon.

Rich: Congresswoman Lois Capps has done work to support our veterans, in fact I’m pretty sure that she was instrumental in opening the VA branch clinic here in San Luis Obispo.

As for the military recruiters: My point isn’t that those who sign up for military service are not aware of the potential physical danger, I don’t think that they are aware of the potential mistreatment they could get if they are wounded in action or even hurt while on active duty (non-combat injury). Do the high school and college age kids who sign up understand that the military may not provide well enough for them while they are on active duty? Are they told that they might have to write home and ask for their relatives and friends to send them toiletries, food and other creature comforts? My main frustration here is that we spend untold billions of dollars on our defense budget and our lowest level troops are not provided for well enough. I think that is an outrage.

Jerrydinaz and friends – a few things you should know about Move America Forward’s founder and recently disgraced ultra-conservative candidate for office, Howard Kaloogian.

Kaloogian’s campaign was plagued with numerous false endorsements and statements.

In February 2006, Kaloogian placed an ad in a Washington, D.C. newspaper that falsely claimed the California Pro-Life Council endorsed Kaloogian. They did not endorse any candidate for the race.

Another claim for endorsement by the conservative Center for Reclaiming America (active in the Terry Schiavo feeding tube petition drive) also proved false —the organization stated they don’t endorse candidates.

In March, campaign literature and Kaloogian’s website suggested State Senator Tom McClintock endorsed Kaloogian with the two-year old quote “Howard Kaloogian has distinguished himself as one of the most principled, courageous and steadfast conservative leaders in California.” In a statement McClinctock stated “It has come to my attention that a campaign mailing on behalf of Howard Kaloogian includes a picture and quote from me that suggests that I have endorsed his candidacy for U. S. Congress. I have not.”

State Senator Bill Morrow, who was running against Kaloogian, challenged an implied endorsement by him of Kaloogian on the same webpage.

Endorsements from social conservatives such as James Dobson who was appointed to the Commission on Pornography, 1985-86 during the Reagan administration and Concerned Women for America, a religious women’s political organization, are at odds with an endorsement from Gabrielle Reilly -an adult website model and who also appeared on Kaloogian’s web site.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for the dangerous liars who comprise Move America Forward. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM.

Democracy Defender: Thank you for your addition to the dialog here. Move America Forward sounds like it is just what those who believe everything they read on freerepublic.com would want in a countercounter-recruitment effort.

JerryD: All of your allegations about CODEPINK seem to come from freerepublic.com and a few other connected sources, like David Horowitz, that “defender” of Republican spin. Do you or does anyone have any actual proof that CODEPINK really, knowingly donated food, water, money and medical supplies directly to insurgents? It would seem to me that if there was actual proof that they were “aiding and abetting the enemy”, someone would get arrested. If CODEPINK is actually doing what the right accuses them of doing in Iraq, is the Bush Administration so incompetent that they cannot prosecute them? Or is the more likely truth here that there is no “there” there?
The “protests” that the right calls the CODEPINK appearances at Walter Reed Hospital are labeled as vigils by CODEPINK. The purported reasoning for their appearances there is to bring media attention to the fact that the military personnel that is being delivered there is done under the cover of darkness so that no one can witness how many wounded troops are going there. The outcry about the sign-age seems to be hollow as well. The only photos I could find had signs saying: “Front LIne or Back Door: How many wounded?” and: “Support them once they’re home” – I’m puzzled; how is that disrespectful to the troops?
So Jerry or anyone else who wishes to address this, please link some sites that have actual pictures of the CODEPINK ladies at Walter Reed Hospital showing the “offending” signs and pictures of the supposed caskets. I tried to see some pictures over at freerepublic.com, but either the pictures wouldn’t come up on my computer, or maybe they have been removed. I look forward to having some proof provided that CODEPINK has actually, knowingly “aided and abetted the enemy” or has stepped of the boundaries of good taste in their “vigil” at Walter Reed Hospital.
Oh, and Jerry, thanks for the links to the schools, I emailed them all asking that they permit the IVAW to speak to any students that want to hear them. You know, free speech and all.

    Bob,

What I found on the internet was the opposite. Counter demonstrators, including Iraq veterans, in Washington who were taunting the protesters with insults and foul language and claiming that the same was being done to them. The allegations are specifically leveled at code Pink and UFPJ although most of the protesters are not affiliated with any group.

It goes to show you that people who taunt and lie about it really have nothing smart to say.

You can tell from the way the video is introduced and flagged that it is a smear campaign.

Listen to the soldiers taunting the protesters.

Which should raise the question again: is being a soldier the only way to serve one’s country?

I would also like to add that war protesters are not usually targeting the soldiers but the politicians and their policies.

On the other hand counter protesters (war supporters) are usually out there to badger those opposing the war. If it were otherwise, they would be demonstrating in support of the war effort as opposed to insulting the other protesters. The much smaller pro war group was there to taunt and to film so that they could post their “propaganda” on You Tube as a smear campaign. It is so obvious.

By the way, Bob, I called Paso Robles HS and gave my opinion too.

The pattern I sqw was your inability to cite a source from Bush’s second term. All of your quotes were from either 2003 or 2004. What has happened in 2005 and 2006? Furthermore, military housing comes from the DoD budget not VA. You think Lois Capps had something to do with the VA center in Sacremento? Hell, with that logic I had something to do with it by defending the country so she can be so ineffective. How many tattoos has she had removed off gang members? That seems to be the only program with her name on it so how effective is it? What the hell has Lois Capps done for anyone for you all to keep reelecting her? As for writing home for creature comforts, again Bob you speak of what you know nothing about: the PX’s in Iraq stock only certain brands of items; if there is something in particular you want you can either wait the month for the PX to special order it or you can have Mommy send you it in two weeks. Furhtermore, the PX never stocked my Aunt’s wonderful peanut butter fudge (she shipped it at Christmas time) nor did they every stock my mom’s homemade cookies. Get your head out of your seat cushion and stop talking out your ass, Bob. You have never been there so stop trying to tell me what I saw or how it really works. It is ignoramuses like you and the Code Pinkos that are out there LYING to these potential recruits that you know what they are about to face that the recruiter didn’t tell them about. You are clueless and because of that you are dangerous aout how things truely work. I like you, Bob, I really do. Please stop this farce before I lose my rspect for you.

    BOB?
ARE YOU HAVING TROUBLE READING? OR DO YOU JUST NOT READ WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO BE TRUE!
HERE IT IS AGAIN FOR YOU:

CODE PINK considers the American Military to be the enemy. During the last week of December, 2004, Medea Benjamin announced in Amman, Jordan, that Global Exchange, CodePINK, and Families for Peace would be donating a combined total of more than $600,000 in medical supplies and cash to the terrorist insurgents who were fighting American troops in Fallujah, Iraq with the full knowledge and consent of Left-wing Congressman Henry Waxman, D-CA.

    OK? GET IT?
    HERE ARE SOME KEY POINTS.
    1) During the last week of December, 2004, Medea Benjamin announced
    2) with the full knowledge and consent of Left-wing Congressman Henry Waxman, D-CA.

    OK BOB? CLEAR ENOUGH?
CODE PINK ANNOUNCED THE DONATION! THERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE!
WAXMAN WAS AWARE AND APPROVED OF IT.

WHAT ABOUT THAT ISN’T CLEAR TO YOU?

OR ARE YOU BLINDED BY YOUR HATRED?

FACTS ARE FACTS ARE FACTS…DO YOUR HOMEWORK BOB. CODE PINK IS BAD BAD NEWS! NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU HATE THAT FACT!

PROOF POSITIVE IS THAT HILLARY AND THE BUNCH WON’T ACKNOWLEDGE THEM OR MEET WITH THEM OR ALLOW ANY OF THEIR NAMES TO BE ATTACHED TO THE ORGANIZATION.

WAKE UP BOB! PUT DOWN THE COOL-AID!

AS FOR PASO SCHOOLS…ACCESS TO THE CAMPUS HAS BEEN DENIED! WE WIN, YOU LOSE! GET USED TO IT!

  25. Brett
    February 21, 2007 at 3:36 pm

Jerry who is this “WE” you keep talking about.

“AS FOR PASO SCHOOLS…ACCESS TO THE CAMPUS HAS BEEN DENIED! WE WIN, YOU LOSE! GET USED TO IT!”

What are you and “WE” afraid of by letting the Iraq Veterans Against the War speak to the high school students?.

  26. Rich from Paso
    February 21, 2007 at 4:48 pm

Look guys, I know who these Iraq Veterans Against the War guys are going to turn out to be: they are either going to be guys that kicked in doors on a daily basis but didn’t feel that their actions were connected in some way to the overall strategy in Iraq because their leadership failed to properly inform them of the current situation and how thier actions were or were not contributing to the overall success of their unit. Or they are going to be guys that didn’t have “real” jobs over there, guys with jobs like cooks, or communications guys, or mechanics or Field Artillery guys that didn’t shoot at anything. They are disillusioned because they fele that their year in Iraq was wasted time and that it wasn’t worth missing whatever family event they missed. I’d be willing to bet dollars to donuts that I am right. What do I base this on? In my brigade only the really bored people, the ones without meaningful jobs, bad-mouthed their time in Iraq. The guys (the gender-neutral variety) that kicked in doors and busted bad-guys or felt they enabled the door kickers and the bad-guy busters to do their jobs all felt satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment at being in Iraq.

Let me tell you where this “IVAW” thing is headed: Pretty soon, as the left becomes more hateful (yes, Jerry, more hateful than they already are) and more desparate to make Bush look bad, the liberals will cease supporting the troops. Remember your history. It was the LIBERALS that spat on our returning Vietnam veterans, heroes every one. It was the LIBERALS, not Conservatives, that accused our soldiers and marines of being “baby killers” based on the actions of a few bad soldiers at Mai Lai. Very soon, Liberals will stop even giving lip service to “support the troops but not the mission” and it will be “I don’t support you or the mission”. These IVAW guys are the John Kerry’s of today and soon I’m sure to be the future Senator sheithead from some state somewhere running on their opposition to this war AND they served. Maybe one of these guys has three Purple Hearts, too. Not long from now, there will be open hostility and hatred of the very guys that the Liberals claim they are trying to protect because guys like me are true believers in the jobs we did and the positive effect for the future of Iraq we had. Jack Murtha has started down that road with his chickenshit “slow bleed” plan to cut off funding for new weapons, equipment and training in order to lower the readiness of units below levels acceptable to deploy. That’s cowardice from a supposed “Vietnam Hero” and he is an embarassment to Marines everywhere with his actions.

Where the harm of these guys speaking is, Brett, that they will not speak the truth about iraq but an agenda driven propaganda spiel laced with their personal anecdotes to support The Code Pinko mission of ruining the military and no equal time for opposing views (don’t give me your Fairness Doctrine bullshit here, okay?) to offer either explanation or refutation of their claims. That is the harm of these guys speaking to High Schoolers. But this is America and they have the 1st Amendment that my friends and Comrades-in-Arms fought and some died for them to abuse in this way.

Here’s the scoop on Melanie Morgan, chairman of Move America Forward.

Melanie is a rigth wing talk show host on KSFO, San Francisco. Recently, advertisers such as Netflix, MasterCard, Bank of America, Visa Federal Express, AT&T, and Kaiser Permanente said they were considering pulling their ads from the station due to the violent, hate-filled rhetoric of Melanie Morgan, who actually stated in November 2006, “We’ve got a bull’s-eye painted on Nancy Pelosi’s big, wide laughing eyes.”

Melanie Morgan gained national attention in the summer of 2006 when she suggested that Bill Keller, an editor of the New York Times, be tortured and killed in a “gaschamber” after reporting that the US government was spying on Americans…something which has now been proven to be true.

Melanie has repeatedly advocated using overwhelming military force in the middle east to achieve our goals, whatever those are exactly.

More to come on Melanie Morgan and the hate-mongering, beligerant group called Moving America Forward. If these folks are coming to town, lock your doors. These people are dangerous.

GREAT POST RICH! RIGHT ON THE BUTTON! THANK YOU.

AS FOR THE “NO NAME LIB” POSTS HERE, IT IS CLEAR THEIR EMBARRASSMENT IS SHOWING THROUGH. GO AHEAD AND TRY TO DESTROY MELANIE! SHE IS A BIG GIRL WITH A VERY POPULAR AND SUCCESSFUL SHOW IN ONE OF THE BIGGEST RADIO MARKETS IN THE COUNTRY. YOUR JABS WILL FALL FAR FROM ANY INTENDED TARGET, AS USUAL.

ALL THE CODE PINKO SUPPORTERS GOT THEIR CHOPS BUSTED! I GAVE DAVE AND THE LOT OF YOU 4 DAYS TO COME CLEAN, WITH NO RESPONSE…SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

SO “WE” TOOK ACTION. AND ARE WINNING THE BATTLE.

I FIND IT VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND HOW EVEN THE MOST RADICAL LIBERALS WILL ALLOW THEIR SUPPORT TO GO TO CODE PINK AND THEIR PUPPETS WHEN NEITHER PARTY WILL PAY THEM ANY ATTENTION LET ALONE WET WITH THEM.

CODE PINK IS YESTERDAYS NEWS. THEY ARE FINISHED, EXCEPT FOR THE NOISE THEY WILL TRY TO MAKE…ALL TO NO AVAIL. THEY ARE LINKED TO AIDING THE ENEMY AND BEING PRO MARXIST AND COMMUNIST, AND HOW ANY DECENT AMERICAN CAN SUPPORT THAT IS BEYOND ME.

THE CODE PINK SCANDAL HAS BEEN EXPOSED AND DEALT WITH. THOSE THAT GIVE FURTHER ATTENTION TO THIS SCAM WILL PAY A TOLL WAY BEYOND WHAT THEIR SMALL MINDS CAN IMAGINE.

THURSDAYS SHOW IS OLD HISTORY…MORE OF THE SAME LIBERAL HATE SPEWING THAT WE ARE ALL ACCUSTOM TO, AND NO LOYAL AMERICAN WILL PAY ONE OUNCE OF ATTENTION TO THESE DELUDED VETERANS THAT ARE BEING USED BY THE PINKOS. WHAT A SHAME.

WHY NOT WAIT FOR A TRUE BALANCED DEBATE? BOTH SIDES PRESENT FOR ALL 4 HOURS? WELL EVEN ASKING THAT QUESTION BEGS THE ANSWER! IT DOESN’T FIT WITH THE “AGENDA” OF THE POWERS TO BE. GET IT?

If the speakers from IVAW have indeed been denied access to Paso Robles, that is a very sad day for everyone and we might as well bring the troops home because democracy is no longer worth fighting for.

Instead our friend Jerry will decide for high school who they’ll hear from and what they’ll be exposed to. Only Jerry-approved ideas. No one else.

As far as I know, all the planned speaking engagements are still set. If Paso Robles does deny access, I hope Code Pink will organize a huge protest.

The IVAW are against the war. oddly enough, THE MAJORITY OF AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE ALSO AGAINST THE WAR. But in Jerry’s world, the majority doesn’t have the right to an opinion, only to his opinion.

Nice try Dave, by you are all wrong: A majority of Americans are NOT against the war as much as you want the rest of America to stand with you as your hate Bush. Truth is that 46% of Americans are against the war or think it is unwinnable. 57% think that we need to win in Iraq. You can read it here

Bottom line is that your fantasy world where Richard Milhouse Bush is going to go down in flames because of all of the hatred for his Viet-Iraq war is just plain crazy.

Here is something else to think about: Do you all realize that less than 1% of the population of America is involved in the fighting in Iraq while less than 1% is out there fighting against the Iraq War. The 99% of Americans are more interested in Anna Nicole Smith’s death or Britney shaving her head than they are with either you, me or anything dealing with the war. That tells me that the United States military is doing a wonderful job in providing such a safe and secure environment for Americans to live in. Hoorah for our fighting men and women that provide this level of comfort. Damn shame that the extremists on the left don’t want that for everyone.

    ****ANTI WAR EXPRESS UPDATE!*****

DURING PHONE CONVERSATIONS HERE IS WHAT WE NOW AS OF NOW.

    1) THE MINUTE THE PASO SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS GROUP HE DENIED THEM ACCESS TO ANY PASO SCHOOLS. THE SPONSORING TEACHER ACTUALLY HAD PRODUCED AND HANDED OUT FLYERS FOR THE EVENT. THEY WERE CONFISCATED.

    2) I SPOKE WITH THE PRINCIPLE OF ATASCADERO HIGH WHO WAS UNAWARE THAT THE EVENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR HER SCHOOL. SHE IS NOW LOOKING INTO THE EVENT, BUT IN PRINCIPLE AGREED WITH THE PASO SUPERINTENDENT THAT UNLESS BOTH SIDES ARE EQUALLY REPRESENTED THE EVENT WAS NOT APPROPRIATE. MORE LATER

    3) RYAN PINKERTON, THE PRINCIPLE OF ARROYO GRANDE HIGH WAS AWARE OF THE EVENT, AND HAD PREVIOUSLY AGREED TO ALLOW IT UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN ANY CLASSROOMS. UPON HEARING THE SENSITIVE AND POLITICAL RAMIFICATIONS FROM SUCH AN EVENT HE WILL NOW SEEK ADVICE OF THE LUCIA MAR SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS. MORE ON THIS LATER

AS YOU CAN SEE, CODE PINKO HAD IMBEDDED TEACHERS THAT APPROVED THESE EVENTS WITHOUT PROPER APPROVAL! IS ANYBODY SURPRISED?

THIS IS OUTRIGHT DISHONEST, SUBVERSIVE, AND MAY IN FACT BE ILLEGAL. (MORE ON THAT LATER)

THESE RADICAL HATE AND ANTI AMERICAN GROUPS WILL DO WHATEVER IS POSSIBLE TO CIRCUMVENT PROPER PROCEDURES TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOAL OF “COUNTER RECRUITMENT” IN OUR SCHOOLS.

THIS IS NOT OVER BY A LONG SHOT! STAY TUNED FOR MORE DETAILS AS THE TRUTH IS REVEALED ABOUT THE AGENDA OF THIS HATE GROUP AND THEIR ANTI-AMERICAN SUPPORTERS.

DAVE, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO STAY OUT OF THE FREY! POSTPONE THIS SHOW UNTIL BOTH SIDES CAN BE EQUALLY REPRESENTED AND A FAIR AND BALANCE DEBATE CAN TAKE PLACE. DON’T YOU THINK THAT IS WHAT THE LISTENERS AND ADVERTISERS WOULD WANT?

YOU CAN SHOW NOW JUST HOW “HOMETOWN” THIS RADIO SHOW IS…UNLESS, OF COURSE, THERE IS ANOTHER AGENDA.

Perhaps DAVE….you are so filled with anger because you HATE having Rush & Sean on “YOUR” radio station everyday. So by the time YOUR show airs you feel like you have to fight against their show’s contents. Gee if they weren’t popular, then KVEC wouldn’t be airing them! Thus you on a regular basis are alienating quite a few of your local listeners. Actually, in MY opinion, you’d do MUCH better to stick to LOCAL issues. Much of your audience listens to your show NOT for your Hate Bush & the war rhetoric, but because, as you say you are the only one doing this “hometown radio” with hometown issues. You, actually, between your show & this blog anger that half of the audience who just wants to get the local stuff from you. We get enough of the Hate the Republicans, hate the Bush Administration, Hate the Conservatives from other venues who aren’t meeting our local issue needs. I repeat, you do better with LOCAL issues. Otherwise, one of these days either KVEC or some OTHER local station may present a LOCAL live show WITHOUT your political slant. Then watch how much of your audience you’d lose, not to mention sponsors. But of course you are in denial about this. I think you do a great job for the most part with the local stuff, but you are losing your way which could prove dangerous. But of course you probably won’t even take this lowly opinion seriously. Many of us Do like YOU, but not your politics. Just a thought.

Rich: Link here for budget data for the Bush Budget for 2007 which was voted on during the 109th (Republican controlled) Congress. Read through the article, please, and notice the voting down of certain fees and charges the Bush Administration wanted to assess to our veterans.

When did I say or imply that Lois Capps had anything to do with the Sacramento VA? Rep. Capps was instrumental in opening the VA branch here, in San Luis, her district. Wow, that’s quite a disconnect for someone who is usually pretty sharp.

Supplying the troops: You are right, Rich, I do not know exactly how every little detail of the military works. I would not assume that the military would provide every “creature” comfort like your aunt’s fudge; my confusion is about whether or not the military does provide basic, staple goods for the troops. Do they get enough food? Water? I understand your point that not everything in creature comforts will be provided, but to not have available the best body armor, helmet liners (that protect from concussion trauma, the number one type of attack, currently), vehicles with actual protection, and proper training so that the tank mechanics are put on rescue missions that they are not trained to do is, IMO, not giving the troops what they need to succeed in the ill-defined mission.

CODEPINK: Yes Jerry and Rich, they did proudly announce their donation of food, medical supplies and money in Fallujah, to the general public that lived there, not to insurgents as the right tries to claim. Rich, you have sources in Iraq; did our attack on the city of Fallujah kill very many innocent Iraqis, you know, the ones that thank the troops for helping them by taking out Saddam? I was under the impression that the attack on Fallujah was a mistake based on the intel not being conclusive and the military escalated the mission to a full scale frontal attack on a city that included denying the safe passage of residents to leave before the assault started. Rich, please clear up my confusion if I have the story about the Fallujah attack wrong. CODEPINK’s mission of mercy was designed to help those unfortunate souls who were caught in the cross fire of that assault. Like I said in an earlier comment, if CODEPINK has broken any laws, like aiding and abetting the enemy, then arrests should be made so that a criminal case can be brought against them. If there was a crime, put up, or shut up, please.

You don’t see the cowards like Bin Laden or Saddam Hussein strap on bombs on themselves, they just pay the poor people to send children to kill themselves with the brainwashing of the false and evil religion of islam.

    FROM CODE PNKO’S WEB PAGE:
    READ THIS AND PUKE!

CodePINK buys back the media through a variety of efforts. These include interesting events (the Pink Slip Bush action and the Sick and Tired Trudge are two examples), sponsoring free showings of films such as “I Know I’m Not Alone” and “Inside Iraq” plus media ads and interviews. Our own Dawn Ortiz Legg, has been a guest on the Dave Congalton show (KVEC 920AM) many times to promote awareness about the issues near and dear to the members of CodePINK SLO.

SO, IN A MARKETING AREA OF MORE THAN 500,000 PEOPLE…300 LONLEY, CONFUSED, AND HATEFUL WOMEN HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DOMINATE A LOCAL RADIO SHOW THAT TOUTS ITSELF AS “HOME TOWN RADIO”! THAT IS .006% ! THAT’S RIGHT! FAIR AND BALANCED? NOT EVEN CLOSE!

KVEC IS A CONSERVATIVE BASED AND SUPPORTED RADIO STATION. THE VAST ADVERTISING INCOME COMES FROM SEAN HANNITY AND RUSH LIMBAUGH!

TAKE BACK YOU LOCAL RADIO STATION!
DON’T LET 300 MISGUIDED HACKS STEAL YOUR STATION! STAND UP! THE ONLY THING .006% HAS DONE IS MAKE YOUR FINGERS TIRED OF TYPING ZEROS!

Bob; You were right, that was my error. I had the Sacremento VA on the brain when I wrote that. That said, what else has Lois Capps done that is even noteworthy?

Supplies: Bob, you are a product of the media. The kevlar helmets we have/had over there do protect against most head truama, but let’s be real here: a 155mm artillery shell going off ten feet from your vehicle is going to give you head trauma no matter how good your helmet is. The fact remains that theis military is the best equiped the world has ever known. We do have the best body armor. The SAPI (Small Arms Protective Insert) plates that go inside the Interceptor body army vests stop AK-47 rounds as close as 100 meters away. I know this from seeing the slugs buried in the plates. Yes, there are better lighter plates, but that costs even more money than what has already been spent. You have to keep in mind that 1) the manufacturer can only produce so many per production run, 2) there are over 500,000 soldiers just in the active army alone that need these vests. As for your other complaints, again you don’t know what you are talking about. Tank mechanics, cooks, supply clerks, paper shufflers, etc. are trained to be infantry soldiers first. All soldiers get basic infantry skills trained to them at Basic training, hence the name. What you may be talking about is that these “low-density” (not many of them in a unit) soldiers is that they are not “proficient” in conducting a rescue mission or whatever. That is a leadership failing at the unit level, not at the Dept. of the Army, or DoD or Bush. The nexus of your complaint is the old one about Rumsfeld and Bush sending an “ill-prepared” army to war in Iraq and it is still poppycock. There is no way to divine what kind of enemy you will face or what kind of tactics they will use once you get there. Keep in mind that this is the same Army that stood at the Fulda Gap against the Soviet Union for 40 some years using the same tactics that were used against the Iraqis and the type of equipment is 25 years old. Why aren’t you giving credit to the flexibility of the military to address the issues by fielding the Add-on armor kits, the interceptor body armor, the reactive tank armor, teh flat armor of the Stryker vehicles? When will you give credit where credit is due?

Finally, as for Fallujah, you could be no more wrong than you are right now. That city was totally over ran with insurgents and terrorists. I gave Dave when I first came on his show a briefing that the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force put together on the Battle for Fallujah and just the huge numbers of enemy combatants that there were in the city. I saw reports of families (men, women and children) being tied up in their homes with their house wired to explode. When our aircraft flew over and bombed somewhere else in the city, the insurgents exploded the house with the family in it and claimed that the US bombed that house too, parading the bodies in front of your precious media for them to show you how evil your military is. Marilyn’s Hexbollah did EXACTLY the same thing last summer and the NY Times and CNN, et al were more than happy to aid and abet that enemy too. The Battle for Fallujah was a year over due and Gen. Swannack of the 82nd ABN Div should have his retirement pay docked for not addressing the situation when he was there, not leaving it for the Marines to handle.

I will post a link when I find one and I will try to e-mail you the brief, Bob, but it is pretty big.

Oh, we were very well fed over in Iraq and we had plenty of bottled water, too. All thanks to your buddies, Halliburton (actually their subsidary, KBR). We could have got anything we needed through the Army channels, but soldiers seem to prefer name brand stuff and not the stuff produced by the Lighthouse of the Blind (yes, actual blind people make most of the stuff the Army uses), a Federal contractor.

Rich — the best you can do is cite a poll from The Drudge Report? Please. The Democrats didn’t take over BOTH houses of Congress last fall based on their good looks. They won — and will win — in ’08 because of the anti-war movement in this country, fueled by the majority of Americans having lost faith in this president and his policies. Nice try.

Jerry — I believe you’re trying to talk to local high school “principals,” not “principles.”

Anonymous — Sorry, pal, when you hide like that, it takes away your credibility and you don’t get much of a response, but I will say this.

For 15 years, my show has been devoted to being a forum for all points of view, even those I don’t agree with. I cover national issues from time to time mainly to give a forum for our listeners who want to comment. But I don’t pretend my show is anything it isn’t.

Nor do I “hate” Hannity or Rush. As I’ve said many times, I owe my career to Rush Limbaugh and I’ll always be grateful. I listen to Hannity every afternoon and he is a master at his job and seems like a nice guy. He just doesn’t always tell the truth and plays fast and loose with facts.

If I were made GM of the station, I wouldn’t change the programming one bit.

But because Hannity and Limbaugh get their six hours, what’s wrong with me trying to level the playing field a bit? Rich from Paso has been on my show three or four times to defend Iraq. Chris has come down to defend Iraq.

But some VETERANS who are against the war show up, all of a sudden I’m being unfair?????

Give me a break. No wonder you go by Anonymous — if this is the best level of argument I could offer, I’d hide my name, too!

Just because The Drudge Report carries the story doesn’t make any less real than your Bullsh^t “media matters” spin machine website. I already told you why the Democrats won and Iraq was a SECONDARY reason. Theprimary reason was the corruption of DeLay, Ney, Cunningham, Foley et al. That and the ineffectiveness of the Republican Congress to get anything done. But if you want to sit around and wave the Iraq War bloody shirt over your head as the reason why the sun rises and sets and all that, fine be my guest. Jerry, Rich and frends…y’all don’t get it. We’re supposedly in Iraq to help establish democracy. That means the people decide what happens to their country. I don’t think you actually believe in democracy. For example, if the people here in the US vote in a new congress that votes to cut war funding for Iraq, then we will have to leave. Period. The president doesn’t get to decide that because we don’t have leaders with absolute power, like Saddam Hussein had.

Sometimes, the majority of the people are wrong! Maybe we should stay in Iraq. I don’t think so. But in a democracy, the people decide, for better or for worse. You and I only have one vote. That’s our system. If you don’t respect the will of the majority of the people as played out in congessional elections, then you don’t want a democracy. You simply want to impose your conservative ideology on everybody else. That will never happen in the US.

Jerry, I know you want to think you’re in control, but you’re not.

Keep blogging, but don’t expect people to think or act the way you want them to, or even read what you write.

Of course, in the case of “hometown radio”, Dave Congalton gets to decide who his guests will be, not you. Maybe you should get your own show wherever you live in Arizona.

Jerry is the only person on this blog that cries HATE in nearly every post.

Democracy Defender, there is this little thing called the “U.S. Constitution” and that document says that the American people didn’t vote for a new Commander-in-Chief with the Democrat Congress. Democracy does not mean that a mid-term election strips Bush of his Constitutionally mandated powers as president. Your problem is that you hate Bush and any “vote of no-confidency” delegitimizes him as President, therefore we have to do the “will of the people”. Furthermore, Congressional elections have NEVER dictated policy to a sitting President. Not even the Republican Revolution of 1994 striped Clinton of his powers as President. So get over yourself and face facts: the only person that has a problem here is YOU, my friend, and that problem is that you wish to bend and distort the Constitution to suit your political agenda.

Truth is, you can’t stomach any challenge to the absolute authority of President Bush, which according the U.S. Constitution, he doesn’t have. Sorry. The people still rule this country. That’s why we call it a democracy.

  66. Dave Congalton

    Rich,

Deny, deny, deny. That’s all you can do, pal. To suggest that Iraq had nothing to do with the November elections is plain bizarre.

I remind you that every Iraq war veteran who ran for office in ’08 ran as a DEMOCRAT.

John McCain recently called Rumsfeld the worst Secretary of Defense in modern history.

Now Great Britain is pulling out. The “coalition” has dropped from 35 to 25 countries.

You lose all credibility, Rich, when you won’t accept even the basic truth: The American people now believe Iraq is a mistake and they want change.

  67. Brett
    February 22, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Jerry what is your source. Come on Jerry we’re waiting. Why are you afraid of revealing your source.

Medea Benjamin announced in Amman, Jordan, that Global Exchange, CodePINK, and Families for Peace would be donating a combined total of more than $600,000 in medical supplies and cash to the terrorist insurgents who were fighting American troops in Fallujah, Iraq with the full knowledge and consent of Left-wing Congressman Henry Waxman, D-CA.

  68. Rich from Paso
    February 22, 2007 at 10:17 pm

Defender, no you miss the point. Democracy is no more typified by 227 elected officials than it is one. Furthermore, more Americans across the country voted for George Bush, 50 million of them as a matter of fact, than any one Congressman or Senator. Finally, Congress shut off funding for Vietnam which 1) halted the bombing campaign that the N. Vietnamese admitted would have caused THEM to sue for peace in 30 days if it continued, 2) allowed the North Vietnamese to conquer S. Vietnam and 3) led to the MURDER of over 2 MILLION innocent men, women and children all across SE Asia. The Democrat Party still has the blood of those people on their hands and they will have the blood of every Iraqi that dies AFTER funding is cut off, if end up being able to committ what I believe should be considered a crime against humanity.

Dave: Yes, I deny your dilusional thought process that makes you believe that our ending our involvement in Iraq will in any way, shape, matter or form IMPROVE the situation in Iraq or elsewhere. You have lost your credibility with me as you continue to deny the 2nd and 3rd order effects of your relentless campaign of hate against George Bush at the expense of the Iraqi people.

Great Britain pulling 1,600 of their 5,500 troops only amounts to a “break” in the coalition if you think that they are cutting and running as you would have the US military do. Furthermore, I thought the Bush “went it alone” to invade Iraq and now there is a coalition? Did someone tell John Kerry that because I’m sure he is still stumping with that line. All you head-in-the-sand, retreat-in-defeat, fantasy world living Liberals are in a rude awakening when this reinforcement of troops does succeed in breaking the insurgency. There is a backlash coming your way that you can’t even see because you are so blinded by hatred of Bush. Just so you know, your hatred of Bush goes back to December 13, 2000 when Gore conceded to Bush, don’t fool yourself by thinking that this is anything new or recent. Bush may be a pile of pure, evil, shit to you guys, but he is still considered a hero to about 80% of the Iraqi populace that is now free of Saddam’s yoke.

    February 23, 2007 at 3:35 am

Okay, here is what I have to contribute to this post-appearance discussion. I did not hear any of the radio show. Hey, sue me! I have a real job that most times prevents me from listening to Dave’s show.

I know I chided Jerry for disrespecting these TWO guys before they said anything. Well, Jerry, it’s open season on them now. Let me tell what Code Pink’s agenda is for our children…

My daughter went to the IVAW presentation at Paso HS today. BTW, the vice-principal sat in as the pro-war side (just so they could have the Code Pinkos there) all he did was parrot Bush lines like “we have to stop them there before the terrorists come here” and stuff like that. Anyhow, the guys started off by telling the kids in attendance (half of which were there just to get out of class and weren’t paying attention) that the US soldiers were “pawns” in some grand conspiracy. Then they proceeded to talk in generalities about what they did over there and where they were. But before long they were back on message, telling the kids that the US military is the terrorist and the kids should use their 1st Amendment right and speak out against the war. They said that the huge majority of soldiers in Iraq are there to just kill people and create havoc. A friend of my daughter said that the US is not the ones detonating chlorine bombs against the Iraqi people so how could we be the terrorists and that 9-11 was commented by THEM and people like them, not the United States. These two sonzabitches then tell her that she doesn’t know what she is talking about and that she needs to read some books and get back to them before she speaks. She said something else and the guys shut her down again. That is when my daughter spoke up and took them to task for in one breath saying the kids needed to exercise their right to free speech and in the next tell her friend that she wasn’t there and that she needs to keep quiet. The shitbags then tell my daughter to shut up and asked her what does she know about Iraq since they were there and she wasn’t. (Oh no they didn’t go there!!!) But they did. My daughter told those pinheads that her dad was in Iraq for a full year and he (meaning me) told her what the US was doing was for the betterment of the Iraqis. That’s when these scumbag propagandists told my daughter to shut up. That is when the teacher that was moderating told them that they had no right to speak to my daughter and her friend that way. Another teacher tried to thank them for their service and she got attitude for her effort.

So there you have it. The Code Pink Anti-american TRAITORS are conspiring with so-called veterans (I don’t buy that they were actually over there; if they were they would have provided better anecdotes to what they did over there) to indoctrinate OUR children to believe their anti-American bullshit.

I am incredibly proud of my daughter that she stood her ground against those two sonzabitches and defended her’s and her friend’s right to freedom of speech even though those two pieces of shit only gave lipservice to it so long as it was THEIR message the kids put out. I HAVE ZERO RESPECT FOR CODE PINK OR THESE TWO IMPOSTERS. Real soldiers would have been a greater respect for the rights they were defending. These two imposters used all of the typical tactics to squash debate and counter-arguments: shouting down, appeals to authority, insults to people’s intelligence, appeals to emotion, every dirty trick in the book. They are beneath contempt for what they did at PRHS and Code Pink is a TRAITOROUS organization.

Dave, you have sold your soul to hate Bush and the Iraq War by putting these scumbags on and you are to be pittied.

Rich: I followed your link to the Fallujah site and went through every single page. The military certainly recovered many weapons and materials that insurgents could use against innocent civilians and our troops. Did I not read that white phosphorous was used not only as an illumination device (what it is designed for) but was also deliberately detonated at ground or near ground level as a weapon? A chemical weapon that would melt the flesh off of human beings but leave their clothes intact; is that not a violation of international rules of war?
My whole point about Fallujah is that CODEPINK went there to help the residents who used to live there, but are not allowed to go back and live there, and any who are allowed back in for any reason are told not to eat any perishable food that they may find. Would that be because of possible chemical weapon contamination? As I have asked before of Jerry or anyone else who thinks that CODEPINK has broken any law, if they broke the law, why haven’t they been arrested?

Rich: If those men speaking at your daughter’s high school did tell your daughter to shut up, I for one am sorry that happened. I did listen to Dave’s show today and heard the three young men speak. I called in and asked them about supplies being provided to the troops and was told that in the smaller bases and outlying camps, often times soldiers have to go outside of normal supply procedures to get enough food and water. You can probably say that that was a logistics problem and not the fault of the higher ups; whatever the problem was and/or is, it still sounds like either poor planning or poor execution. The helmets I was speaking of were actually helmet liners, designed to reduce the force to the skull of concussion impacts. Operation Helmet addresses what I was talking about. All of our combat troops going to Iraq, Marines, Army and reserves should have had these liners. Equipment shortages are another concern for “completing the mission”; once again, poor planning, or are is the military being pushed to the breaking point?

    GRIEVING A FRIEND

I once knew a man named Dave
Not very often did he shave.
On the airwaves was his new job
To hometown radio we would turn our knob
All seemed well and in it’s place
He was off like runner at a very fast pace
but he wasn’t a man with a happy face

Then one day a friend came clean
and warned him about his leftist lean
He centered himself and he did find
a world of full of the angry and kind
He was the balance; he was the source
of left and right in full discourse
No one lost…we all would win
It was like he was our next of kin.

And then, oh then he slipped and fell
A story that I can barely tell
From his throne of success and grace
into a pit so filled with disgrace
He leaned back to the left so filled with hate
it blinded his friends and sealed his fate
He had lost it all for a cause not won
all of a sudden he was just no fun

He fought so hard to swing the scales
but all the wind fell from his sails
He had given his all for a losing cause
    Never really stopping to pause
to hear the words of friends that care
That had no agenda they begged him to share
He fell into a trap so well planned and laid
not able to recover from all he had said

When it was over he laid in waste
Those that had used him left with haste
Committed to finding another to bring
their hateful message of the left wing

So around the corner and down the street
that man you may still may meet
His soul is gone his life sucked out
saying over and over “was this all for naught”
The world at his feet, a noose at his neck
He sold his soul now lay waste, a wreck

A tear did spill by those who cared
A sad moment for those who dared
to warn him of his terrible fate
to be consumed by his own hate

Bob: just so you know that the helmet liners your link refers to are ALREADY being fielded by the Army and all deploying units gets them as a part of the Rapid Fielding Initiative. The equipment issue is different. That is for new vehicles not to replace the ones already used. The article did not say what these new vehicles that would protect soldiers were and, beyond the stryker vehicle, I am not aware of any new model of vehicle.

Once again, Bob, you lack of information on gthe subject of warfare shines through again. DU rounds don’t give off radiation. The danger of DU rounds is that when they strike an object, the round becomes self-sharpening as it penetrates. Tiny fragments of DU are sloughed off as it sharpens. But that only happens when it strikes something like a combat vehicle’s armor, otherwise because it is a hypervelocity round, it just goes right through.

What I want to know is why I continue to waste my time lecturing all of you people on how things really work in the military when all you are going to do is believe some ignorant fraud that gets on Dave’s show over me? My head hurts from beating it against the walls of your collective ignorance.

Hmmm, you better find out what happened. I think the Superintendent lied to you. You’re not going to take that are you?.

    February 23, 2007 at 9:38 pm

Dogma, what Jerry said was right. The event was to be cancelled due to a lack of equal time representation. The Vice-Principal took the stance of being pro-war and the event was back on. My daughter was there and said that she could give better reasons for the iraq war instead of the half-witted, limp wristed attempt the V-P made “trying” to appear pro-war. That’s what happened.

Rich you’re starting to sound like Jerry.

“she could give better reasons for the iraq war instead of the half-witted, limp wristed attempt the V-P made “trying” to appear pro-war.”

So I think you are stating that the Vice Principal of the school is rather dumb and gay. That’s nice.

Oh… so ANYONE that is not of YOUR opinion Brett “is starting to sound like Jerry”…..Jerry deserves a LOT more credit for his thoughts than you give him.

And RICH is my HERO on this blog…And I THANK him!!!

No, I’m saying the V-P was a fraud pro-war supporter like those IVAW guys were fraud soldiers. You made the gay comment, not me.

    February 24, 2007 at 5:55 am

    Rich, don’t play stupid.

Here’s your exact words–“My daughter was there and said that she could give better reasons for the iraq war instead of the half-witted, limp wristed attempt the V-P made “trying” to appear pro-war.”

    Let’s see– half-witted
I’m assuming that equates with dumb.

“limp wristed attempt the V-P made”

Limp wristed?. I think that refers to someone who is effeminate/gay.

Hey anonymous. “Oh… so ANYONE that is not of YOUR opinion Brett “is starting to sound like Jerry”…..Jerry deserves a LOT more credit for his thoughts than you give him.”

Has nothing to do with my opinion, it has everything to do with making personal attacks that have absolutely nothing to do with the argument you are trying to make. Jerry’s arguments almost always include some ad hominem attack.

    Rich,

Well, it’s too bad that your daughter and other students apparently dusted it up with the three vets, but what do you expect? That situation is no different from what takes place on a talk show or any other kind of confrontation around Iraq. The entire country has become polarized because of the actions of a president who saiid he wanted to unite the country. Good job, W!

So why should a high school forum be any different? I spent 90 minutes with those three guys and I found them polite and respectful. I wasn’t at the high school assembly so I don’t know the context of what happened. If you’re correct, then it’s unfortunate that they told your daughter to shut up, but that exchange is reflective of what’s happening in the country today.

  108. Rich from Paso
    February 25, 2007 at 5:04 am

I think you found them polite and respectfull because you four were all on the same sheet of music. But when someone, my daughter in this case, disagrees with them, they get told to shutup. The real tragedy is that debating most folks on the left is nearly impossible because of the dogmatic approach most bring to the debate. I continue to blog here in order to keep educating guys like Bob on how our military works. Beyond tha, I know that I am wasting my time trying to convince anyone on the left of anything becaseu my views do not correspond with liberal orthodoxy. The days of “disagreeing without being disagreeable” are over. Just take any posting between Jerry and your random liberal respondant, if you don’t believe me.

  109. Brett
    February 25, 2007 at 6:03 am

Rich, come on!. You first write this. “The real tragedy is that debating most folks on the left is nearly impossible because of the dogmatic approach most bring to the debate.”

And then you use Jerry as an example of dogmatic approaches between folks. “Just take any posting between Jerry and your random liberal respondant, if you don’t believe me.”

Jerry is the worst of anyone. Talk about dogma. He has zero credibility. I can’t believe you’d hang your argument with that guy.

  110. Rich from Paso
    February 25, 2007 at 6:55 am

There you go again proving my point. You on the liberal side obsess with him and hurl the worst slurs at him. Besides, the argument doesn’t stand or fall with Jerry. You really need to get over him.

  111. Brett
    February 25, 2007 at 8:10 pm

“There you go again proving my point. You on the liberal side obsess with him and hurl the worst slurs at him.”

I don’t obsess with Jerry, but I’m certainly not going to give the guy a free ride on his comments. He calls Barack Obama an Oreo and tries to weasle his way out. He makes racist comments and tries to weasle his way out. He constantly screams out HATE by those he doesn’t agree with.

I don’t HATE America, I don’t HATE, democracy, and I don’t HATE freedom. In fact I don’t HATE Jerry. But as far as I’m concerned Jerry is an idiot.

You can’t have a civil argument with Jerry he just screams back HATE or some other name calling response. And there is no reason trying.

So to use Jerry as an example of the dialogue between liberals and those who disagree with him is rather poor.

  112. Rich from Paso
    February 25, 2007 at 8:37 pm

I know why Jerry bothers you guys so much: you feel that he is laughing in your face with his stream of nonsequitor comments and his cap lock typeface and it grates on you guys. Remember it was me that first called Jerry to task for his oreo comment. I use Jerry and the other responders to illustrate how the extremes of the political spectrum monopolize the debate. Bob and I, on the other hand, have a 20-30 comment debate back and forth that is generally civil and well-articulated and I can hear the yawns from everyone reading that our debate is boring, we should get a room, etc. But when Jerry comments with his cap locks, every liberal comes out of the woodwork to insult him and call him everything but whatever skin color he is. If you can’t see what I am talkaing about then I will reserve the space for another topic and let this issue drop but I think I am very clear and on point with the comments, Thanks.
