Clear Channel Announces Plan to Sell Radio Stations Outside the Top 100 Markets and Entire Television Station Group

SAN ANTONIO – November 16, 2006 – Clear Channel Communications, Inc. (NYSE:CCU) today announced plans to sell 448 of its 1,150 radio stations, all located outside the top 100 U.S. media markets, as well as the company’s 42-station Television Group. Collectively, these properties contributed less than 10 percent of the company’s revenues last year.

“Our decision to divest these broadcast properties was reached as a result of the ongoing optimization of our diverse portfolio of media assets,” said Mark Mays, Chief Executive Officer. “These are profitable and well-managed properties in excellent markets. We believe that the sale of these stations will allow us to position our business to provide even greater value to our listeners and shareholders.”

The radio stations scheduled for sale are located in 90 markets outside of the top-100 Arbitron Metros. The television stations are located in 24 small and mid-sized markets throughout the country.

The sale of these assets is not contingent on the closing of the company’s merger agreement announced separately today.

******

Just to add on to this announcement — we were told today that Clear Channel will be selling all four of its SLO stations, i.e. KVEC, KSTT, Cat Country 96 and New Rock 104. Sale should be finalized by summer. We have no idea who might buy us. As I find out information, I’ll let you know. Meanwhile, let’s enjoy Hometown Radio while we can.

Maybe Ernie Dalidio can find him a job at the new shopping center. It’s not like you need to know anything to work at Lowes, and given that Dave has experience with fence building he should be qualified.

Hey Jerry!!!!. When are you moving to Nicaragua?.

MANAGUA, Nicaragua – President Enrique Bolanos signed a bill Friday banning abortion in all cases — including when a woman’s life is endangered — despite opposition from doctors, women’s rights groups and diplomats.

IMPLODE #2 (and they haven’t even taken office!)

    Hillary Really Worried About Pelosi

Washington insiders who have close contacts with Hillary Clinton’s inner circle tell NewsMax that one leading Democrat is not happy about Nancy Pelosi’s upcoming rise to speaker of the House — Hillary herself.

At first blush, feminist Pelosi and her “San Francisco values” would seem to be a good fit with Clinton, who is eyeing a run for president in 2008. But politics is getting in the way.

Hillary fears that the California congresswoman will rival her as the leading woman in her party, a position Hillary held before the Democrats took control of Congress in the midterm elections.

Another concern for Hillary, according to a source, is that if Pelosi is seen as a failure in her role as speaker, that could convince many that a woman isn’t up to handling a top job in Washington.

“Hillary loses whether Pelosi succeeds or fails,” the source said.

“Pelosi comes across as a shrill anti-military, anti-prayer, sharply partisan super-liberal who angrily insults Republican foes as ‘immoral.’

“It’s just the hard-edged image that Clinton has tried to avoid for herself by co-sponsoring laws with Republicans.”

One sure sign that Hillary is concerned about Pelosi: You won’t see the pair in many photo ops any time soon. (woof! woof!)

JerryD: Thanks for your cut & paste from such an unbiased source:) It is rather amusing to see the right leaning media try and spin any disagreement among Democrats as an “implosion”. The reason that the term “having drank the kool-aid” was/is an apt descriptor of the right was the very lack of any public disagreement among Republicans. The very apt descriptor of Democrats getting along is like “herding cats” is because the Democrats have a much broader representation of political viewpoints and the value placed on dissenting opinion over a message of “unity” that the Republicans seem to put above all else, at least when displaying an “image”. The worst/best part of your cut & paste was the last two words: woof, woof. Was that meant as a derogatory comment about how the two women appear? Pretty damn shallow. This is another attempt by the conservative media to paint any disagreement by Democrats as “destructive” to the party, when in reality, democracy is sometimes messy, but it works itself out in the end. Nice try Jerry, but for your next cut & paste try and find something with some substance.
