What It Has Come To

This is especially for Rich in Paso.

“An ABC News undercover investigation showed Army recruiters telling students that the war in Iraq was over, in an effort to get them to enlist. ABC News and New York affiliate WABC equipped students with hidden video cameras before they visited 10 Army recruitment offices in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“Nobody is going over to Iraq anymore?” one student asks a recruiter.

“No, we’re bringing people back,” he replies.

“We’re not at war. War ended a long time ago,” another recruiter says.

Last year, the Army suspended recruiting nationwide to retrain recruiters following hundreds of allegations of improprieties.
One Colorado student taped a recruiting session posing as a drug-addicted dropout.

“You mean I’m not going to get in trouble?” the student asked.

The recruiters told him no, and helped him cheat to sign up.

During the ABC News sessions, some recruiters told our students if they enlisted, there would be little chance they’d to go Iraq.”

Dave, the very fact that these guys were caught means that their Army careers are over. Now don’t fall for the fallacy of the sweeping generalization, meaning that because these recruiters are liars that all recruiters are liars. I know several recruiters and they are the most upstanding guys dedicated to honestly recruiting the best people into our Armed Forces. You and Code Pink can make the sweeping generalization if you like, but the fact remains that Armed Forces recruiters are the most scrutanized, inspected and investigated group of individuals in the military, maybe the entore government. From now until the end of time, the social security number of recruiters are directly tied to the records of every recruit they bring in. If at any time in the career of a recruit it is found that the recruit was broght in fraudulently, that recruiter is held to account, sometimes five and six years after a recruit has entered the army. Yeah, it’s tough business bringing in new recruits at all levels of the military; it always is in times of war. But their job is not made any easier when people like John Kerry denigrate every serving memeber of the Armed Forces (you and Michele are the only fools believing that Kerry meant anything other than what he said). This is an isolated event, as they usually are, born of soldiers acting in the absence of proper leadership, as is usually the case… unless you want to go on the record, Dave, and slander all of the recruiters in the military by sayig this is standard operating procedure. I’m guess you won’t even though you probably believe it, or else why push out the article? Let’s see: no courage to tell an Iraqi that we were wrong to invade his country, no details on your Vietnam years, and now, you’ll have you won’t have the courage to say that the Armed Forces lie to their recruits as SOP, even though that is what you and Code Pink believe. Prove me wrong, Dave.

As a former member of the armed forces I was not surprised to hear about this. While in Basic, we had three recruits that suffered from physical problems that should have prevented them from emlisting. One suffered from asthma. We almost lost him during a road march. The amount of dust kicked up by the Company during the march; coupled the extreme humidity (Ft. Jackson, SC is a veritable sauna in August.) almost killed him. How he managed to get accepted I can only imagine. He should have been sent home, but he wasn’t. There were other asthma attacks, but they were brushed over.

Another recruit suffered from seizures. He had some episodes out in the field and some in the barracks. One recruit on guard duty witnessed one episode while the recruit was asleep. The kid freaked thinking the recruit was dying.

The third recruit developmentally disabled. Not much, but enough that he really struggled to grasp some basic skills. Some of the older recruits would take turns tutoring him every night.

All three were good men who should not have been there. In the end their physical and mental condition could pose a threat, not only to them, but to others.

Out of curiosity I began to monitor the rest of the company, and when possible other recruits as well. I’d venture to guess that this population recruits was small. However, keep in mind that if they go down for reasons related to their physical ailments they become a liability. Just getting out of a situation would tie up another soldier or soldiers.

In my current employ I come in contact with many a troop. I admire each one and offer words of encouragment (positive words from one professional to another, no juvenile b.s.). Call me what you will but I refuse to be cavalier and jingoistic when it comes to the life of a member of our arm forces.

It is during these moments that I size them up. Quite a few are squared away, but there are some… One recruit had a physical condition that made his shoulders hunch over slightly creating what appeared to be a depression in his chest. My suspicions were confirmed by his girlfriend. I also found out he suffered from an irregular heartbeat.

Another sufferd from scoliosis. He had a pronounced drop in his shoulder. I asked him if had injured himself. He said he hadn’t and stated his back was slightly crooked. I asked him if that would be a problem. He said no, especially since his recruiter said that would not be problem (and neither did the doctors). That didn’t sound right.

Other ailments ran the gammut from flat feet to psoriasis. How these people are getting through I can only guess.

Needless to say I’m not surprised about this recruiting mess. It takes just few jerks to screw it up.

    HEY JERRY. YOU DIDN’T ANSWER.

“is that conservatives in general actually stake a claim at having a balck and white moral position.”

See that’s the problem believing everthing, or most everything, is a black and white moral position. It’s not just in case you’re wondering.

HEY JERRY!. Here are some questions for you.

Should abortion be illegal?. Actually I know your answer but I want to hear it again.

What about birth control. Should married couples use birth control. I won’t even ask if you believe it is a sin for unmarried couples to have sex. Although what do you think about sex taking place between unmarried adults.

Do you follow all of the teachings and principles in Leviticus from the Old Testament.

    Bye Bye Super Wal-Mart!

Atascadero has put Brennler and Beraud on the Council! Along with Luna, they’ll be able to show Clay and O’Malley how to run an honest city. It won’t be long before O’Malley and Clay start getting theirs for all their backing by Rottman. I’m so pleased to see that they’ll have to stick around to answer all sorts of questions about their backroom dealings.

Jerry how is it you can completely ignore the national elections?.

Oh, Mulholland will still be on the City Council- hate to burst your bubble.

Measure J will inevitably end up in court. Ernie has probably created his own undoing by using the initiative process.

Like I’ve said though, there is no way that the project can be built without City water and sewer. The developers know that, now if Ernie is still involved and hasn’t taken his windfall and is spending his time counting his money the developers will have to tell him that you really can’t build it without City services so you will need to go to them and negotiate a deal.

Unfortunately the Council should tell him to go pound sand but that is unlikely.

However maybe Ernie is so damn stubborn that he won’t listen and his field of dreams will continue to grow weeds.

Well I am saddened by the Republican near sweep of California state offices, (especially SofS) and I have a hard time believing that voters fell for the deceptive wording and ads for prop. 90. Locally there is good news for Atascadero and most other cities won’t see much of a change. Measure J, I think Brett has that pretty well summed up well and I was somewhat surprised to see all three cities sales tax increase pass as well as props 1a,b,c,d,and e. As for national politics, Damn! JerryD, are you feeling a little blue?

O’Malley. Clay. Pay back is going to be a BE-YOTCH!

Wally World may not be coming to town after all. Or will it? Will they follow Ernie’s lead?

Speaking of Ernie…congrats! Not only will SLO get butterfly sanctuary, but a much needed IN-N-OUT. Did I mention that thanks to Measure J the county may have to decide wether Atascadero will get a WAL-Mart or not. Hey, maybe we’ll even get a much coveted distribution center.

Now about the current state of national affairs. It may be necessary to suspend the Constitution and declare Marshall Law if the Republicans ever hope of finishing the job they set out to accomplish. We must turn to antiquity for inspiration. How does the idea of a “benevolent dictatorship” sound. Even Plato (?) believed democracy was overated if not down right dangerous.

By the way, is it just me or is something odd about a certain individuals map of U.S.?
