One Week Left

Your Faithful Blogger has finally returned and I apologize for my prolonged absence between posts. Instead of mending fences. I’ve been building one down here in Nipomo and it has pretty much sucked up very spare moment of free time I have. Almost done and that will do us until spring when I do the back half. We certainly don’t own much land, but it is amazing to see how much time Charlotte and I devote to upkeep and maintenance around here. I’m beginning to envy our friends with just a small strip of yard like we used to have.

Meanwhile, Wednesday is our final debate on Measure J. Vic Montgomery and Jim Patterson will discuss the issue from 5 to 7 and we will field phone calls during the 6:05 hour. I do believe that Measure J will pass by a wide margin in the county and by a smaller margin in the city. I wish that those anti-J spots would stop trying to scare people with threats of Wal Mart coming and a $30 million tax bill, but in fairness there’s probably some stuff the pro-J spots are promising that aren’t true either.

County Clerk-Recorder Julie Roldewald joins us on Thursday to answer election questions and Matt Kokkonen is there the same day to analyze the various propositions. I also remind you that much of election eve show on Monday will be an open lline where you get to call in on any subject or candidate you wish.

I’m not sure what exactly is happening, but I sense voters are weary. Part of it is the war, part of it may be the drain of so many elections back to back, and part of it is certainly all the negativity from the various political ads. People just seem to be tired and not as enthusiastic as they’ve been in past years.

Election results are anyone’s guess, but the Big Mo does seem to be with the Democrats nationwide. They will take the House and Nancy Pelosi will be our next Speaker (sorry, Sean). They may not take the Senate, but they’ll pick up enough seats to negate a Republican majority.

And how is President Bush responding? By running around the country, screaming about . . . gay marriage.

Meanwhile, the death toll for U.S. troops in Iraq for October stands at 103.

Mission Accomplished, Mr. President.

And I wish Dave would actually read the iniative itself along with the reports from SLOCOG, Cal Trans, and the Regional Quality Control Board. Air Pollution District, statement by the County’s Counsel, the city of SLO’s staff report, etc. I mean advocating for this based on a slick PR campaign does not serve the public well.

Add to my wish list: Dave knowing the difference between a referendum and an initiative. It’s in the CA Constitution. One is an up or down vote on legislation, the other is an actual act of legislation that cannot be ammended once passed.

TOO: Would love to hear Dave calling Vic on the disinformation he’s spread about the Paso/Williams Bros vote in the 80’s, which was open only to the voters in Paso, not the whole county. No comparison.

And how about those soccer fields the county has said will be little more than flood plains that the county is supposed to pay to upkeep–guess what? They won’t! So forget the soccer fields.

And while we’re at it, check all those recent statements by Dave Cox and Vic Montgomery where, when pressed, they admit that they don’t know how certain mitigations will be paid for, but they’re sure that can be worked out later. GREAT PLANNING!

Welcome to Los Osos Sewer II, friends.

Unless enough county residents are magically injected with critical thinking skills, and they vote NO and let Dalidio bring it back to the city, for a plan that REQUIRES him to pay his FAIR share.

Dave Congalton and the current editorial board of the Tribune holding hands, who would have thunk it?

How dangerous is Iraq? Allow me to provide some perspective on how the 103 deaths in Iraq this month compares with deaths here in lovely California:

In October 2005 (the latest available statistics from the Office of the Attorney General), the following took place:

2,503 murders (almost all of the soldiers killed since the start of the Iraq War)
9,345 rapes (versus the one committed by US soldiers)
114,321 aggrevated assaults (that’s American on American assaults just so you know)

In October 2004, 338 people lost their lives on California highways. The 10-year average for our highways in October is 331.

Victor David Hansen has a great article on the subject here

As for Dave and the Liberals’s repeated attempts to try and talk America in to losing another war and obfiscate any good that is occruing in Iraq in order to smear Bush because of his hatred for the man: mission failure, Dave.

Hey all, I voted today absentee and it was ALL RepubliCAN. Let this be the harbinger of things to come: Demo-Rats go down in a flaming defeat. For their next act, the Demo-Rats will reenact the “Dawn of the Dead” on November 8th when they cannibalize Nancy “NAMBLA” Pelosi, Harry “Land Deal” Reid, Rahm “Race Baiter” Emmanuel and Howard “Big Scream” Dean for losing yet another Congressional campaign.

John F’n Kerry said that he hated it when people who have never worn the uniform lie about him who has worn the uniform. Well, I have worn the uniform and I do not in any way, shape, matter, or form believed that he was referring to anyone but soldiers that weren’t smart enough (his intent, not mine) to get in college and stay out of the military. Kerry is only person lying when he said he was referring to Bush… or he’s an idiot since Bush holds an MBA from Harvard and he served in the National Guard (go ahead and crap on National Guard service, I dare you)… or he’s both an idiot and a liar. I know that it has been 40 some years since he last wore his uniform on the Dick Cavett Show bad-mouthing his military but, this is the smartest military the world has ever known. More enlisted soldiers hold bachelor’s degrees than in any time since the founding of our nation (what Code Pink says be damned) and for John F’n Kerry to try to go back in time to his military where you were ordered to go into the miltiary in lieu of prison is reprehensible. Kerry, and our other elected DemoCan’ts have no soul and no respect for the miltary, even the ones like Kerry who served. To elect these scumbags is to advocate the defeat of our nation at war and that will not stand by me or the rest of the electorate. You can take that to the bank.

Gerry, I bet you $100 that the project wouldn’t get built without City water and sewer. The Measure J vote is a more sophisticated Alex Madonna “I’ll build a pig farme if you don’t let me do what I want”.

  13. Brett

About those “Sports Fields”. Not only are they going to become wetlands unless you can find a way to drain all the water that flows into them from all the hard surfaces, the “deal” is another example of the developers trying to shift the cost to the residents.

The “deal” shows just how greedy the developers really are. Yeah that’s right, greedy. If you think the developers give a damn about anything more than the money they’re going to make you’re sorely mistaken.

What they are hoping for is for the County to be foolish enough to take the detention basins over so they don’t have to maintain them and even worse force the County to try and get a discharge permit from water quality control to empty the run off if the County wants them to become usable.

Enough of this poor old Ernie “whoa is me crap”. He’s going to make $10’s of millions if he can get development rights on his property. And his claim that the property can’t be farmed is a flat out lie and he knows it. I’m certain he’s rationalized why it’s ok to lie about it. His excuse is probably along the lines, it’s only a political campaign people lie all the time. I’d have more respect for him if he just flat out said I’m tired of owning a farm and want to make tons and tons of money by building a shopping center. At least that would be honest.

The $4 million of cash and the 13.9 acres of land that the developers are going to give as their “fair share” of the cost of the overpass is just a token amount of their fair share. They’re hoping residents are foolish enough to buy into their future planned scheme of using the tax revenues the project generates, our tax receipts, to pay for most of the rest.

I’m certain the developers believe that is fair. Of course no other development in the county has received a sales tax kickback to pay for infrastructure that the project requires.

The developers are trying to argue that you didn’t have it anyways so it’s not like it really costs you anything.

Hey!, how about this- if you don’t pay your fair share you don’t get a project. That’s what the argument should be.

I’ve lost a lot of respect for Dave. He has some strange notion that Ernie has been screwed and he’s owed a shopping center. The vote on Measure J shouldn’t have been some proxy on Ernie Dalidio but a vote on the initiative.

No, Bob, actually the news in California is much the same as Iraq without the frequency.

Look here at about hit-and-run terrorism done by an arab on Jews.

Look here on a similar event. My point? yeah, these guys (especially the old guy) are not “terrorists”, so what? The world is a dangerous place to start with. Iraq is more dangerous because it is a war zone. Just an indisputable fact. 100+ deaths, tragic they all are, are the result of an enemy that won’t stop fighting, not because President Bush had them killed which is what you say when you blame Bush for them being there. Every servicemember is a volunteer and they knew why they were there If you want to get mad, get mad at the enemy that continues fight our troops, get mad at Iran and Syria that aids and abets them. Why don’t you say that we should send more troops in so we can kill these fuckers once and for all so our troops can come home reveling in victory instead of skulking in defeat? That’s the problem with liberals is that you all have no problem with America losing a winable war again. Liberals need to find the backbone to achieve victory instead of acting like the cowards they appear to be.

You like posting the negative and only the negative on Iraq. Here is a link to an article on positives coming out of Iraq you will never see in your beloved New York Times.

One other thing… you all need to remember that the media blew the call on Florida in 2000, the media blew the Ohio exit polling in 2004 and they are blowing their “likely voter” polling samples in 2006. Rich: The media didn’t blow the call in Florida in 2000; Fox News went against all of the other networks to call Florida for Bush when all of the other media was calling it for Gore. The solution, the Supreme Court of the US tells Florida not to continue with a full recount.
As for polls, exit polls have always been a precise indicator of what people have just done. When the exit polls in the Ukraine for their president didn’t match the voting results, our government insisted that the elections weren’t valid and needed to be held again, which they were and the results were different from the first, but the results did match the exit polls. That was in 2004 when we had exit polls that didn’t match and we were told that the polls were “faulty”. The approach that you are taking right now is the very same tact that will be the method that the Republican Party will use to try and establish a doubt about the election results which will give them the opening to steal many elections on Nov. 7 as a means of maintaining their majority in the House and Senate. Yes, I know you label me with the conspiracy theorist label again, but please pay attention and remember what I am suggesting here now as the approach the Republicans attempt.

  28. Rich from Paso
    November 2, 2006 at 7:33 am

I’m sorry, but you and every conspiracy theorist ARE FULL OF SHIT when it comes to the 2000 and 2004 returns. First of all, it was not JUST Fox News that called Florida for Bush. Dan “forged documents” Rather reversed himself TWICE on the call for Florida. First time he reversed himself was BEFORE the PRIMARILY REPUBLICAN precincts of the panhandle of Florida voted. Why was jesse Jackson on the ground in Miami on all of the news channels THREE HOURS after the first call claiming voter fraud if that wasn’t their plan all along. Furthermore, ALL of the butterfly ballot and hanging chads issues were in counties RAN BY FUCKING DEMO-RATS!!! Michele Dostert was on Dave’s show today bitching and moaning about an election SHE AIN’T EVEN LOST YET and how Bush and Co. were “going to steal another one”. Well, how can the worst and dumbest president of Dave’s lifetime orchestrate a third straight upset win? Answer that one. Oh, I forgot… Karl Rove is Satan incarnate, right? Give me a break. Second, the Miami Herald, the Boston Globe and your beloved New York Times each conducted a recount AND BUSH WON BY 2,500 votes. Gore still whines like a baby that he got more popular votes. Well, my friend, he should have ran for President of Russia where that might make a difference. In America, for those who have forgotten, we have this thing called the Electorial College and THAT is where Gore lost. Third, John Kerry was told he was ahead in Ohio at 2 OCLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON by his campaign manager that couldn’t get you elected hall monitor of an elementary school. The polls were open for 6 more hours. Just like Bush said, Kerry was spiking the ball on the 10 yard line before he ever crossed the goalline. Again, I loved how Michele was building her case that another one was stolen by saying that electronic voting machines this that and the other thing were wrong. Need I remind all you diaper wetters that YOU ALL demanded them after the Florida recount, a recount that violated three Florida laws and was decided FIRST by the Florida supreme court? I guess I do. The Florida Supreme Court, in a split decision, told ONLY Brouard and Miami-Dade counties (and one other) that ONLY THOSE counties would recount all ballots using the most liberal judgements. The THOUSANDS of overseas absentee ballots from our brave servicemen and women went UNCOUNTED and remain UNCOUNTED to this day. Bush would have won Florida in a landslide if DEMO-RATS were not out to keep the military vote low.

When you lose on Tuesday, and you will lose, all of your conspiracy theorist boys and girls will gnash your teeth and rend your clothes and scream to whomever you worship “how could they do this to us again?” and you know what? There will be no answer because conspiracy theories are made by helpless people to explain to themselves why they are helpless and to provide a boogeyman for their pain. Well, the truth is that when you lose on Tuesday, it will be because the American people will have rejected your bankrupt, intellectually vacant and soulless party not once, not twice, but for a third time. Take to the streets and cry foul, but your rage and anger should be directed towards your worthless party leadership.

Don’t bother posting your links to socialist websites or to the Federated Union of Crap Shoveler or whoever else you think will help prove your point. I for one don’t care what you say. Talk to me again on Tuesday and bring your best conspiracy theory to explain away your impending loss. I’m tired and I’ve had enough liberal whinning and crying for one day. Good night.

I also think the Dems have a shot at the Senate. Probably won’t win it outright, but they can battle to a tie and keep Bush on a short leash.

Bob, you forgot that Bill Clinton actively dodged the draft and protested against his country overseas (which he still has a penchant to do, the entire staff of the Clinton legal defense fund, Harry Reid, Teddy Kennedy, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd ducked Vietnam in the Reserves, John Edwards didn’t serve and was eligible (college deferment like Cheney, I’m sure), Jay Rockefeller ducked Vietnam by serving in the Peace Corps (any service other than Vietnam was ducking, right? That’s the charge against George W. Bush); Robert Byrd went to war, but it was for the Confederacy, so I’m not sure if that counts or not; Henry Cisneros, Bill Richardson, Bruce Babbitt, Chuck Schummer, Dick Durbin, on and on, didn’t serve in Vietnam and were old enough to have done so. Regardless of these facts, the left still feels that they too are qualified to talk about war and it’s impact when none of the above mentioned (Byrd notwithstanding- giving him credit for his CSA service) even lifted a finger to serve their country in the military. If the Republican “chickenhawks’ have no room to talk because they didn’t serve, then neither do the Democrats.

As for Kerry, you are a fool of you do not think he was talking about exactly what he said. There was no joke, it was a warning to the kids at PCC that if they didn’t study and do well they would have to join the military, just as they did when he served. Furthermore, Democrats must think I am a fool because you all feel that you need to explain Kerry’s words to me as if I can’t hear what he said, and finally if you are going to try and make a joke about someone, it helps to actually mention them somewhere in the set up. The words “President Bush” or any words closely related to the president were not uttered. You would also have to be a fool to believe that John F’n Kerry does not hold contempt for the military. he testified on second and third hand hearsay of “attrocities” in Vietnam and now the AP says that John F’N Kerry has always had contempt for the very concept of the all-volunteer military that is currently serving in Iraq. His biggest mistake was that he opened his mouth and told everyone listening to what he said not what he may have been trying to say, exactly what he thinks about my the people I went to Iraq with. And for that there is no apologizing.

Still waiting for Dave to give us his 1965 to 1974 whereabouts. My Guess is that he was in college, just like Dick Cheney. Oh, still waiting to hear aobut the e-mail I challenged him to send to my Iraqi friend about how wrong it was for the Untied States to wage war against his country.

Bob, you are so dense. Don’t you think that if Bush has the power to lower gas prices prior to the election that he never would have let them get that high in the first place? Better yet, why didn’t he just lower them more than they already were? If Bush had the power to control gas prices, don’t you think we would pay exactly $1 for a gallon of gas everywhere in the country? And don’t you think that Bush and Co. would be on the nightly news every night claiming how powerful they are to keep these prices in check? Again, it is like I said earlier, all you helpless people out there that feel victimized by the world need to have a bogeyman to blame your woes on when in reality it is just supply and demand proving the speculators wrong.

Naw, I don’t think that is it. I think Bob is insulated in his small business world that provides for him and his family only. Without outside responsibilities, he feels he can be a liberal idealist. Idealist normally identify with the Democrats on the social side. I am a Conservative idealist as exemplified by my blog. Bob is entrenched and mired in the past; whereas you and I are forward thinkers looking to a brighter future.

But even if we do lose on Tuesday, it will just be our party that lost, not us personally. On the other hand, Bob, Dave, Michele and the other libs will take it extrememly personnally and will need to have their shoelaces taken from them, all sharp objects should be removed and be kept on the first floor (Not hard in SLO) because they will be nearly suicidal with grief and conspiracy theory inspired paranoia to keep going on for two more years to their next loss.

    1. Do you believe in “income redistribution”–that is, the government taxing affluent Americans at a higher proportional rate in order to fund entitlements to the less well off? YES NO

Yes, when the total benefits, including externalities exceed the costs therefore the overall wealth of the Nation is increased.

    2. Do you believe the definition of marriage should include homosexuals? YES NO

oops–3 above should say “have” not “hasn’t”

    4. Are you against states legally mandating that parents be informed when their underage daughters have abortions? YES NO

Yes. Are you willing to have young girls seek out back alley abortions and risk their health all because they can’t or won’t seek their parents permission?.

    5. Do you want the US to win in Iraq? YES NO

I thought the U.S. already won in Iraq. I don’t think the U.S. can create a democracy in Iraq without the support of the Iraqi’s number one, and honestly I don’t know if given the circumstances now in Iraq if it is even possible. “We” broke and we can’t fix it.

    6. Do you think the Bush administration should be investigated? YES NO

There are a number of areas that the Congress should look into.

    7. Do you the Bush tax cuts should be repealed? YES NO

I believe in a more progressive taxation policy.

    8. Should the inheritance tax be eliminated? YES NO

No, but I do believe the exlusions should be raised.

    9. Do you want more gun control laws? YES NO

I believe that all ammunition should be traceable and owners should have to show proof that their fire arms are kept in theft proof storage.

    10. Do you support affirmative action? YES NO

I believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to attend schools or find employment.

    11. If your 23-year old daughter had an internship with a major corporation, and had spent her summer on her knees, under the desk of the married CEO, would you demand his resignation? YES NO

I’d be pissed that I did such a poor job of raising her.

11a. Should that CEO be fired if lied outright about the incident in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by your daughter? YES NO

Are you asking me if he lied about the incident that occurred with my daughter or lied about an incedent that occured with someone else.

Should a person who has been accused of sexual harassement be appointed to a position of extreme importance?.

    12. What paragraph(s) of the Constitution outline the responsibilities of the Department of Education? ______________?

There are probably a hundred other Federal departments that are not specifically outline in the Constitution.

    13. If we, as a nation and political system have no moral superiority over other nations and governments, should we continue to spend public monies on maintaining memorials to those that have died in order to preserve and spread our way of life? YES NO

    Huh?

    14. If one maintains that Darwinian evolutionary theory should be taught as fact, and at the exclusion of all other theories in public schools, one must subscribe to the notion of “survival of the fittest.” If one believes that, “survival of the fittest,” is a natural, evolutionary process, does the Endangered Species Act set a dangerous precedent in man’s interference with nature? YES NO

It’s a good thing humans have a conscience.

    15. If you knew for a fact that a person was HIV positive, would you allow your teen-ager to have sexual intercourse with that person if they promised to use a condom they got from the school nurse? YES NO

Although condoms are very effective at stopping the spread of sexually transmitted diseases there is a small chance of failure. I hope my daughter would have the knowledge she needs to make an informed decision on her own if she didn’t have my guidance. If your spouse was HIV positive what would you do.

    16. If, conceding the liberal argument, homosexuality is a genetic predisposition, and a test becomes available to let expectant mothers know if their, “fetus,” is predisposed to homosexuality, should that mother be allowed to abort the “fetus,” on that basis? If she would abort a “homosexual fetus,” does that constitute a “hate crime?” YES NO

Jerry if you don’t believe one’s sexual preference is predisposed how did you chose your sexual orientation?. I take it you must have experimented with either sex to see which you like better.

I don’t think any mother, except an ignorant religous zealot would chose to end a pregnancy because her child could grow up to be homosexual. Good thing you are a man.

    17. Suppose you and one other person were shipwrecked on a desert island, not under the jurisdictional law of any state and/ or country. Is it morally right for that person to kill you, or you to kill that person to stretch the food supply? YES NO

If it was you, then Yes. I’m just kidding Jerry, uh maybe not. Do you have the moral right to kill someone whom you believe is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of humans?.

    18. Do you believe the ultimate goal of the radical Islam is to eliminate the US and Israel from the face of the earth? YES NO

If you believe that is their ultimate goal how do you deal with the threat. Attack Iraq?. Attack Iran?. Attack a host of other countries.

    19. Do you believe in amnesty for illegal aliens? YES NO

I believe that a guest worker program needs to be instituted and that a better process needs to be created for those who have been here illegally for many years to earn citizenship.

    20. Do you think english should be the enforced official language of the US? YES NO

All Americans should learn English. There are issues that arise during an emergency and other costs associated with multiple languages being used. What do you mean by enforced official language. Should immigrant grandparents who are American be jailed because they do not speak English?.

    21. Should US companies be allowed to drill for oil off shore and in the Anwar province? YES NO

Are there places where drilling for oil should be off limits.

Brett, you really need to stop answer questions with other questions. There is no “debate” when both sides are only asking questions. As for your answers, please allow me to weigh in here:

1 and 7. You are foolish to think that there is any benefit from ever escalating tiers of taxation. The current tax code is regressive in that it stiffles the economic engine (Bus Admin from Kansas, ’97, in case you are wondering). The so-called “progressive” tax code has been repudiated numerous times, starting first with JFK when he cut the top rate from 91% to 39.6% (he would have been a Republican today). Wealth redistribution was also first repudiated in 1620 with the Mayflower Compact. That compact came about because the socialistic mentality (yeah 200 years before Marx) had people freeloading and living off of the production of a few.

    9. Tagenetts in ammunition seriously degrades the effectiveness and the consistency of the powder. I am in favor of every gun sold with a lock regardless of where it’s bought.

  50. Brett
    November 4, 2006 at 12:56 am

Come on Rich, Jerry’s questions were juvenile in his attempt to try to illicit an answer he could play on later.

If he wanted to ask me whether I thought President Bill Clinton should be impeached because he lied to a Grand Jury about an “affair” with an intern in a civil case that was dismissed I’d have answered him straight up. NO!.

First I don’t believe you just tax people to tax people. It’s clear that the overall wealth can be increased by “redistributing” income. When I use the term wealth it is not just the amount of money somebody has, it incompasses everything- the “Welfare” of the Nation.

Here’s the problem with the Left and the Right. The Left doesn’t seem to understand that potentially the benefits of a public program are not greater than the costs and the Right won’t acknowledge that many times the benefits of a public program are much higher than the costs.

The issue of taxation and who gets taxed and how much is more complex. I believe in balanced budgets for the most part. However fiscal policy needs be a part of the Federal Government’s ability to generate economic stimulus in a recession, dispite automatic fiscal stimulus such as unemployment insurance payments.

So back to a balanced budget and who gets taxed and how much. The discussion about progressive tax rates has to be analyzed on the marginal effects and the economic impact. It’s not simple to say that if you increase marginal tax rates on some and lower them on lower income earnings that the overall impact of the policy on the economic activity is negative if the total tax collected remains the same.

Brett: I didn’t support the Clinton impeachment because I didn’t feel that Monica’s hummers rose to the level of “high crime or misdemeanor”. Neither do I feel that Bush has done anything that any fair-minded individual could see as a High crime or misdemeanor. Oh, is that you Bob trying to sneak up on me? I heard his footsteps.

As for taxation, the laws of supply and demand have a psychological component that most people overlook. Most folks look at tax policy and say “well, if you make X amount of money beyond your need to survive, you should give that X amount to the common good” That sounds good when you are the person receiving some portion of that X amount. But if you are the one who’s X amount is being taken, you would value that X mount such that taking it would constitute stealing from you. Afterall, that is your work, your genius, your risk, your whatever that translates to your wealth. If you disagree, feel free to write the IRS of any amount you choose. I, however, am not wealthy, but I plan on becoming wealthy some day and I don’t want people who have not earned a right to my money taking my money from me. What I find striking is that the most liberal members of Congress are the stingiest when it comes to spreading their own wealth but have no problem spreading Republican, or yours or my wealth around. Why doesn’t George Soros have the same type of foundation set up like Bill Gates? If you look at my “10 and 10” tax plan on my blog, you will have my answer to the current tax code.

There are many good Federal programs out there of all stripes. However, you must admit that in every sector of the Federal government there is tons of fraud, waste and abuse that could be either cut out or properly given to those that really need the assistance.

    7) THERE ARE ONLY 2 REASONS TO TAKE OUT YOUR GUN…1) TO USE IT! AND 2) TO CLEAN IT. NEVER ATTEMPT TO SCARE ANYONE WITH A GUN…YOU WILL DIE.
    8) EAT WHAT YOU KILL, EXCEPT FOR HUMANS…THAT’S AGAINST THE LAW.
A GUN IS NOT A TOY AND ITS NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF…ASK THE CRIMINALS! THEY ALL HAVE EM! ITS NOT A PRIVILEGE TO OWN A GUN IT’S A CONSTITUTIONALLY GUARANTEED RIGHT! AND DON’T YOU EVER EVER FORGET THAT! IT WASN’T THE 20TH AMENDMENT…IT WAS THE SECOND! RIGHT AFTER YOUR RIGHT TO JUST SAY WHAT I DID…OR THE LEFTY DRIVE BY MEDIA DOES EVERY DAY. THE FIRST AMENDMENT DIDN’T SAY WHAT YOU SAY HAS TO BE THE TRUTH! MANY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT EVERY DAY…EVEN WHEN OR NATION IS AT WAR. 20 YEARS AGO PEOPLE HAD A SENSE OF DECENCY AND SHAME…NOW THEY JUST HIRE LAWYERS. Yes Rich, I’m here: When the Democrats gain control of the House of Representatives and after the first 100 days of undoing some of the damage the Republicans have wreaked upon our country, maybe then there can be investigations to determine if there is cause to call for a vote of impeachment. If there is not sufficient cause, than either the vote will not be called or it will fail. Rich, I asked you recently about the active duty troops who were petitioning Congress for redress concerning Iraq; now the attitude of the entire military establishment is apparently changing- link here to the story about to break concerning the military’s call for the removal of SecDef Donald Rumsfeld. Thoughts?

Jerry, come on. Those questions were so overly loaded and apparent what your spin would be it wasn’t even challenging. I, for some reason, expected more out you.

    This is classic

    13. If we, as a nation and political system have no moral superiority over other nations and governments, should we continue to spend public monies on maintaining memorials to those that have died in order to preserve and spread our way of life? YES NO

So if I answered yes you would have claimed that I didn’t believe our political system or morals were superior to let’s say Sudan. If I answered no because I don’t agree with your premise you’d say I don’t support our fallen heroes.

YES NO

How long did have to spend to come up with that question.

I need to pull out my Elements of Arguments text book to identify every fallacy you’ve committed.

You’ve learned well from your idol Rush Limbaugh. Unfortunately Rush can screen his callers and cut them off if they start to discredit Rush’s premises and conclusion.

So Jerry, have you stopped having sex with men to decide if you are heterosexual?.

    I couldn’t help myself.

If I go to work for Hillary’s campaign could I count on you for a letter of recommendation?.

  56. Rich from Paso

The military Times publications have always had a leftward slant to all of their stories so I am not surprised that they want Rumsfeld’s head. But I ask the question again: to what end? What will change with Rumsfeld’s departure? Bush answered that question recently: nothing. Firing Rumsfeld would do nothing more than give you fodder for your hate Bush mantra,.

Oh did you see this? Apparently, the Bush administration put Saddam’s nuclear bomb making plans on the internet and they were so accurate that independent analysists insisted the plans be taken off the internet because someone could actually build a bomb off of them. Well I’ll be darned. I thought little ole Saddam was just minding his own business when that big bully George Bush stormed into his country, killed his sons and then had him imprisioned for NO REASON WHAT SO EVER. I guess the liberals were wrong, huh? What’s that, Bob? Saddam didn’t actually have a bomb? Well, there is this element of the law called “conspiracy to commit a crime” When you are a whackjob like Saddam, having plans to build a bomb is just about ths same thing as having a bomb when you consider that he did in fact use chemical weapons on his own people the lst time he had opportunity to use them. Read it here.

This is an article written by Donald Archer which was publish in the October issue of Rogue Voice. http://theroguevoice.blogspot.com/2006/10/americas-cro-magnon-mindset.html

It describes Jerry and his thinking extremely well.

    October 1, 2006
    America’s Cro-Magnon mindset

A Cro-Magnon mindset sees all the world’s resources as means of private profit, to be selfishly plundered in the moment rather than as a collective common to be shared judiciously for generations to come.

The weak and the hopeless will always resort to acts of terror when all else fails. And no amount of counter-violence will stop it.

    America’s Cro-Magnon mindset
The 21st century is leaving the U.S. in the dust

    By Donald Archer
Our national political representatives, and the interests who support them, are trapped like dinosaurs in a Cro-Magnon mindset, and they’re taking all of us with them.
They confuse intransigence with integrity, corporate interest with national interest, military might with security, and negotiation with weakness. If we are observant and honest, we will see that this confusion is making the world increasingly dangerous.
These individuals are so obsessed with, and blinded by, their twisted idea of how the world should be, that they can’t see how the world is, how it works, or what it needs. In their own skewed vision of entitlement, only the very wealthy—those who have profited from the infrastructure that all of society has provided—are entitled to healthcare, education, opportunity, and economic security; everyone else is simply entitled to the misery they find themselves in.
A Cro-Magnon mindset sees all the world’s resources as means of private profit, to be selfishly plundered in the moment rather than as a collective common to be shared judiciously for generations to come.
A Cro-Magnon mindset does not believe in constitutional government—government that protects the interests of the people against the tyranny of concentrated power and wealth, and founded on the authority of law, not dictatorship. From a Cro-Magnon point of view, power and violence take the place of reason and compassion.
A Cro-Magnon mindset has contempt for the democratic process itself. It sees authority as supreme: “I’m the decider!” It considers the citizenry as dependent and immature, as vassals who need continual guidance and control, and who must be manipulated by constant fear.
A Cro-Magnon mindset sees no ethical contradiction or moral lapse in putting others in harm’s way while evading such vulnerability itself.
A Cro-Magnon mindset believes that ends justify means. For example, a this archaic, unevolved consciousness will finance and support terrorist groups and terrorist activities if it perceives that such actions will further its interests or weaken its enemy; and it will undermine legal and democratic processes that it believes hinder its efforts. It will then deny that its actions have led to the calamities it faces.
A Cro-Magnon mindset is incapable of seeing the complexities of reality; to it everything is black and white, good and evil. When it sees the violence of a terrorist act, it only asks “who,” not “why?”
A Cro-Magnon mindset, despite the evidence, is incapable of seeing that the violence of terrorism is the way that the politically weak and powerless get the powerful to acknowledge them and negotiate because no other means have worked.
And a Cro-Magnon mindset doesn’t acknowledge its own brand of indiscriminate violence—war—as an act of terrorism.
A Cro-Magnon mindset refuses to see and remedy the legitimate grievances that lead to terrorist actions. And once such ignorance and callousness provoke a terrorist response, a Cro-Magnon mindset sees negotiation as weakness, and might as its only resource, military action its only solution: Of course, it was not bombing the IRA into oblivion that brought peace and stability to Northern Ireland; that was achieved by the British negotiating with a group that had used terrorism to get to the negotiating table. The same is true of Israeli negotiations, however clandestine, with its adversaries. The weak and the hopeless will always resort to acts of terror when all else fails. And no amount of counter-violence will stop it.
A Cro-Magnon mindset does not learn from the past, lacking curiosity about and interest in any historical event that doesn’t bolster its own preconceptions. A Cro-Magnon mindset prefers the Dark Ages to the Age of Enlightenment.
A Cro-Magnon mindset does not understand or acknowledge the interconnection of all people and all nations of the world—except as consumers and producers who can be exploited to generate the wealth of a few.
A Cro-Magnon mindset cannot conceive or understand that human beings can and often do things for the sheer joy of doing them, and not for profit, or ulterior motive, or self-aggrandizement, or fear of punishment, or anticipation of reward.
A Cro-Magnon mindset does not understand that wealth is not generated indefinitely by moving money around; in the end, something of intrinsic value has to be produced.
In the pursuit of a frozen vision and immediate, transitory private profit, a Cro-Magnon mindset is willing to sacrifice the future of the United States, and the future of the world.
As much of the world clearly sees and understands, this Cro-Magnon mindset doesn’t work; it destroys the very things it seeks: peace, and political and economic security. The world is moving in a new direction and the 21st century is leaving this Cro-Magnon mindset, and this nation, in the dust.
    ***
Note: “Cro-Magnon” is being used for poetic effect to convey the sense of an outmoded and archaic mindset. My apologies to the real Cro-Magnons who were undoubtedly more civilized and civil than the current mindset. §

    Mr Archer of Cambria,
“A Cro-Magnon mindset, despite the evidence, is incapable of seeing that the violence of terrorism is the way that the politically weak and powerless get the powerful to acknowledge them and negotiate because no other means have worked.
And a Cro-Magnon mindset doesn’t acknowledge its own brand of indiscriminate violence—war—as an act of terrorism.” Not cool. You won’t survive long with that mindset.Think about it, while we wait I’ll have roast duck with the mango salsa

With one to two days before the election, other means of getting-out the message to oppose MEASURE J are crucial; as many people ignore messages both ‘FOR’ and ‘AGAINST’ MEASURE J e.g., all of those MEASURE J signs.

Since only a tiny percentage of voters are actually swayed by blogs, now is the time for “old fashioned word of mouth” to collectively sway voters to oppose MEASURE J; as again, many people have become indifferent to all of the ‘FOR’ and ‘AGAINST’ messages.

    * Word of mouth is what’s worth repeating, again and again for the first time!

    * Two points needing discussion:

    — The Dalidio development won’t produce living wage jobs.

    — MEASURE J IS JUST ANOTHER ELEPHANT DEVELOPMENT!

Yes, this can generate laughs, but is also frames the message as “the elephant” is a metaphor of a large, disorganized, unpredictable beast; which obviously describes the Dalidio development proposals!

How wonderful! Mr. Archer, as posted by Brett, has mannaged to sum up everything liberals find objectionable about conservatives in one tidy neat little article. And to make sure the article gets read, he sladers every conservative that holds any one of the griveances that Mr Archer holds against conservatives as a “Cro-Magnon”. This sophistry is used to make all liberals feel good about their weakness with regards to the military, its uses and security, their “understanding before action” mantras, and “don’t hit back! it will only make them mad” and the creme de la creme, “terrorism is the only way for these poor, weak, oppressed people to find a way to voice their grivances” BULLSHIT!!! Terrorism is no more an acceptable means of airing grievances than abortion is a waty of empowering women. If you have to kill to feel powerful, you are wrong and you don’t deserve any power. Converesly, the United States ousted Saddam Hussein, a killer seeking power at the expense of his people and his neighbors, and freed the Iraqi people from decades of domination, sectarian based murder, oppression, war and genocide. Did the U.S., on Bush’s order, do it to make the U.S. more powerful? If anything, the Iraq invasion has made us weaker because “Dodo mindset” is now out there denigrating and trying to discredit any good that comes with Saddam being out of power. If the terrorists want peace, then they should stop fighting. It is not the U.S. fault that terrorists refuse to put down their weapons and go home, it is the terrorist that continues to fight and kill our people and the Iraqi people. I, for one, don’t give a squirt of piss about what grievance a terrorist has when he plants bombs in a public square to kill innocent people like craven cowards. They have lost any respect their point of view might have deserved. So, Brett, call me a “Cro-Magnon” if you wish, I don’t care. But allow me to use turnabout (which is fair play) and call all of the pseudo-intellectual wannabe elitists out there, like Archer, part of the “Dodo Mindset”: a mindset that leads only to death and extinction as you ponder “Why are they killing us?”; a mindset that urges for understanding while you are in the jaws of the beast devouring you; a mindset that scowls at protectors for their harsh tactics and then screams bloody murder when they aren’t there to protect them when in danger; a mindset that seeks to find the cause of grievances and demands calm and “immediate cease-fires”…when it’s about other people, but quick to demand action and vengence when the predators strike at home. It is a mindset that will result in a mushroom cloud over one of our cities within the next 12 years if the “Dodos” are left in charge.

Dennis Miller said “of course Bush is being blamed for what happens in Iraq. He’s a “first guesser” and you can’t have any “second guessers” until you have a “first guesser

58,000 deaths in 8 years of Vietnam to end in a loss versus ~2,800 deaths in three years of Iraq and the outcome is still in question. There is no comparison; Vietnam was the worst waste of life in American, Iraq is not even in the same catagory. Hell, even the 17,000 that we lost in two years of the Korean War were a bigger waste than Iraq because that war resulted in a tie. So anyone that wants to retreat in defeat after losing less than we lost in the first 10 minutes of the Normandy invasion can go play in the street as far as I’m concerned.

Rich how many American men and women need to die in Iraq without any sign of progress before you decide it’s become a waste of American lives.

And to be honest I don’t think there is a “winable” solution. We’ve gotten ourselves into a world of fuck over there and I don’t think all the military might in the world may be able to resolve it.

Anonymous (since you don’t have the ocurage to identify yourself), you don’t know what you are talking about. 3 of those ~2,800 deaths were close friends of mine. Do I mourn their deaths? You bet. Do I want to retreat in defeat in Iraq? No way in hell. To do so would make their sacrifice meaningless and futile. Only you with no physical connection to the Iraq War wold so capriciously and callously want to make those men and women death meaningless because you find no value in the work those people gave their very lives for. Shame on you for your sactimonious catterwalling that their deaths are meaningless now therefore we should leave. Their deaths will have no meaning if we let cowards like you and the rest of the retreat and defeat crowd talk us into losing in Iraq and retreating in shame. That’s it isn’t it? We get shamed so George Bush will get disgraced because he may be my president, but he is not your president, right? Shame on you! I was there, you weren’t. My friends and I volunteered to serve our country and we did so with pride. Pride that you would steal for us in an attempt to bring disgrace and shame to this country. You see no value in the deaths in Iraq? Well, bud, you only know what you have read. Unfortunately, that means more to you than the eyewitness accounts of your’s truely and others that come home with pride at a meaningful job well done. I’m sorry that you are so insultated from the realities that those of us that have worn our uniform in Iraq saw every day we were there, but the fact remains that our noble service men and women’s death will not be in vain so long as the yellow-bellies of the left are not in charge to make that so. If we leave Iraq, the resulting death and bloodshed will be on the your hands and the hands of everyone like you.

fRich, if you believe that staying in Iraq because you think that leaving/quiting/giving up/cutting and running, etc, etc. shows that your friends deaths and those of many other Americans would make their sacrifice meaningless and futile, we as Americans, are staying Iraq for the wrong reasons.

58,249 American servicemen and women were killed serving our Country in Vietnam. I know you don’t consider their sacrifice meaningless.

Their deaths and your friends deaths will never be meaningless in that they gave the ultimate sacrifice when their Nation called upon them.

I have the utmost respect for our Country’s servicemen and women and value their lives and commitment to our Nation.

Sometimes you have to admit that the conflict cannot be won and despite the number of Americans that have lost their lives you have to move on but you must never forget their sacrifice.

You have to admit when people who have been there and tell you that they war will be won if you all would just stop whinning, that you just stop whinning and let your military win one for a change. See, me and my other friends that have been there recently tell me that thing are SO much better than what the Mainstream Media has been lying to you about. Those are the facts.

Rich, what do think needs to be done to create a democracy in Iraq?. Oh and don’t tell me that they’ve already have one. They are engaged in a civil war and killing American troops daily.

How many troops would you need?. How long do you think that “we’d” need to stay there?. How much money will it take?. What milestones need to reached to decide if “we’re” making any progress. If in 6 or 7 years after many more thousands of American troops being killed would you call it quits?

Brett, go back into the archieves a couple of weeks ago and read what I said about what I would do in Iraq. I am tired of typing the same things over and over again for every John-come-lately to the Iraq discussion. I am also tired of Democrats saying that they have to come up with a plan now that they have won. I venture to guess that if the Democrats really cared about creating a winning strategy in Iraq they would have done that before the election so as to actually have something to run on. But , honestly, how long does it take to write down “cut and run from Iraq” which is the only point of any Democratic plan.
