Cleaning up the Cuesta Mess

Sorry to have been away all week. Tom and I both enjoyed our time off and we’re slowly gearing up for our local election coverage. Meanwhile, Charlotte and I remain hopeful that our Atascadero house will stay in escrow and close on the 22nd. Please keep those fingers crossed.

But I’m back to blogging and will try to post issues again on a daily basis. I appreciate the response we continue to get on the issues of the day. I’ll also try to use the blog more to announce special upcoming shows and provide links to different books and web sites mentioned on the show.

Word on the street is that Cuesta College is trying to strike a deal with Gil Stork to come on board as interim president. Marie Rossenwasser is taking a hike in December, thanks to an overly-generous compensation package from the trustees. She’s been in office since 1999 and by most accounts she was a disaster on every level. All the upper managers quit and she completely bungled the failed bond measure. Believe me, no tears are being shed at the news of her departure.

The saddest part is all of this could have been avoided had Gil Stork been given the job in ’99, but he was passed over by the Trustees who wanted to appease the ever-powerful faculty union. They went with the weaker candidate and that’s exactly what they got.

I love Cuesta, but here’s hoping Gil comes on board, at least on an interim basis to clean up the mess and restore confidence in the college, though, to tell you the truth, I wouldn’t blame him if Gil said “no thanks.”

Stay tuned!

Travis in SLO submits this very well done video by Evan Mahone.

In observance of the upcoming 5 year anniversary of the September 11th
attacks, I’ve put together a memorial video:

“On a remarkably clear morning five years ago, New York City came under
attack. This video memorial, taken from footage shot by eyewitness
    David
Vogler, shows New Yorkers waking up to that grim reality. Crystal
Morning tells the story of September 11th, 2001 through fire and
ambulance radio calls, the 911 call of a trapped World Trade Center
worker, and the lens of local resident who saw an explosion while
    walking to work.”

    Crystal Morning is dedicated:

    * To all the innocents killed on September 11th, 2001,

    * To all the people who died while trying to save others,

    * To all the people who comforted those who knew they were facing
the final moments of their lives,

    * To everyone who lost someone dear,

    * To New York City,

    * To the men and women working to defeat those who attacked us and
    those who desire to,

    * To the two towers whose beauty I did not appreciate until after
    they were gone, and

    * To the hope that this mad world might one day rise above the
    mentality that caused September 11th.
