Christine & John & Dave & Rich & Bob & Jerry

We get cheap shots on the blog, mostly from the ever-prolific Anonymous, whining about the on-going debate between Rich and Bob on these pages. These two guys love to argue and enjoy a healthy debate. I don’t get the complaints. Both are articulate and skilled advocates. You should be following their arguments and, most importantly, feel free to jump in. Anyone can make a comment here. Thanks to both Bob and Rich for taking the time and effort to energize this forum. I appreciate the debate!

Did we scare Jerry Dagna away? I fear so. I miss our friend from Arizona and HOPE HE WILL RETURN SOON!

In terms of the upcoming mayor’s race in SLO, it looks like a foursome, but only three are in the hunt: John Ewan, Dave Romero and Christine Mulholland. I said the other night on the radio that Christine’s entry into the race probably guarantees a Romero re-election. Maybe, maybe not. Upon reflection, I believe that there is a scenario under which any of these three can win. Election night might end up being a real nail-biter.

I like all three. I respect all three. I consider all three to be friends. I will not endorse and I will try to be fair in our coverage, but reserve the right to comment as issues warrant. Obviously we’ll bring every one in for on-air interviews and provide complete election coverage.

What do you think? Who should be the next mayor of SLO?

Thanks for the support, Dave. I hope that Bob and I are expanding the world views of our opposite sides. I think I can speak for Bob when I say that we are, in a good natured way, trying to educate the other side. We have very divergent viewpoints that we adamantly defend, although compromise and understanding is not out of the question and has happened from time to time.

Dave and Rich: Thank you both for your kind words. I do agree with Rich that we are trying to educate or at least have our viewpoints considered by those who might usually disagree with us. We have compromised and come to understand each other’s view occasionally, which I at least hope helps tone down the rhetoric between the left and right.
I was saddened to see Jerry Dagna leave even though Jerry either went slightly over the line or right up to it occasionally, I thought maybe he was trying to do parody; regardless, the person who berated him was over the line in vitriol, he could have made some of his points without being so mean about it.
To answer your last question Dave, I would like to see what would happen if Christine Mulholland were elected as mayor; would we fall off the face of the earth?

I enjoy reading comments from both Rich and Bob. I tend to agree with Rich more, but I appreciate Bob’s thoughtfulness and passion.

The one thing I don’t understand. Why hasn’t Dave invited the two of you to come into the studio and debate? That seems the logical way to settle this once and for all.

    Just a thought!

HEY DAVE! I AM HERE AND WELL, THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS, ALTHOUGH THEY SEEM RARE. I LIKE TO BLOG ON THE ISSUES, KEEPING IT BRIEF AND ATTACKING ONLY THE ISSUES. SOME HOWEVER SEEM TO WANT TO ATTCK ME RATHER THAN THE ISSUES. SO BE IT. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. THE SHOW IS AWESOME, AND YOU ATTEMPTS TO INCLUDE MATIONAL ISSUES IS CERTAINLY APPRECIATED BY ME.

    JERRY,

WELCOME BACK! IN YOUR HONOR, THIS WHOLE MESSAGE WILL BE IN CAPS.

AND I AGREE — WE NEED TO FOCUS ON ISSUES AND NOT PERSONALITIES.

HOPE YOU’RE STAYING COOL IN ARIZONA!

Chuck, it has been discussed but due to personal reasons, both Bob and I are unable to get in studio. Dave is probably crying or throwing a fit or soemthing because he knows that he could dedicate an entire show to the two of us and it would be one of the best he ever did. Tom would have the board filled for four hours with “The Bob and Rich Show”‘s callers. (see how gracious I am Bob, I even give you top billing althoguh I think The Rich and Bob Show sounds better)

Thanks for agreeing more with me than Bob. All I ask is that you listen for when I am on and call in so I can hear a friendly voice while I get savaged by the loony SLO county fringe (just kidding folks)

Yes, I would love, for example, to have Rich and Bob be my special guests for our 15th anniversary broadcast in January, but that’s unlikely to happen. See, Rich and Bob are actually the same person — it’s one of those Phil Hendrie things. Sorry to give out the secret . . . . .

Yes, the secret is out indeed. Dave is both Rich and Bob. He must make up Rich to express his true thoughts and feelings, and Bob to express his socialistic side. I knew a business owner could never really be “Bob”.

    Bob

I was the on who ‘berated’ Jerry Dagna. I have listened to Jerry’s jive act and had grown extremely weary of it. I tried before to post replies to his postings and he never would respond with anything other than his quick hit liberal jabs. Jerry would not engage in discussion, only in posting inflammatory remarks. He got from me what he deserved. I’ve listened to Jerry since I first started listening to Dave back in 1994.
I know his tricks and what he’s capable of. You say I was ‘over the line in vitriol’ but you should go back and read my post (it was under Daves july 4th blog titled ‘experts warn U.S…). True, I was angry at Jerry but I submit that everything I said about him was true. I don’t feel that I was being vitriolic, but rather that I was trying to confront Jerry with actual statements he had made, and get him to at least enter into some kind of debate. His response was to quote the bible (basically calling me a fool. Then when I responded to that, he responds by deleting all his posts!

You obviously value good debate, and construct your arguments well. Jerry never played by those rules. Trust me, he wasn’t doing parody.
I just don’t understand why you would find yourself defending him.

Rob in Los Osos: I do find Jerry Dagna annoying as well, his calls are usually just a quick sound bite repeating some drivel that Rush or Sean has spewed and his comments here IN ALL CAPS is pretty juvenile as well. My comments were meant to try and have Jerry not take his bag of marbles and go home, never to come back and play nice; I had hoped that he would have realized that maybe there is a different way for him to respond here. No such luck, oh well. As for you ‘berating’ Jerry; I thought many of the same thoughts you posted here, I usually try to come across as a little less inflammatory. Jerry’s reaction was amusing though. Please keep commenting, and ‘berate’ away, I’m certainly no “chat room/blog commentator police” type. Take care.
