Good Luck, Jeff

About 25 Clear Channel employees gathered at the Elks Lodge in SLO on Thursday to say goodbye and good luck to KVEC programming director/operations manager Jeff Williams. After overseeing the rebuilding of KVEC during the last five years, Jeff has decided to take a new position with a cluster of stations closer to his home in the Santa Ynez Valley. A lot happened on Jeff’s watch. He added Sean Hannity, expanded my show to four hours, restructured the morning news, and pushed the old one hour-weekly shows to the weekends. The results are pretty clear. The ratings for KVEC have doubled since Jeff came on board and during the last ratings book, we tied for fourth — not bad for an AM station. The final curtain call was getting KVEC to start streaming on the Internet and that should start next week.

Jeff was a great boss and a good friend, totally supportive of Hometown Radio. We wish him only the best.

Meanwhile, the bus to the Reagan library on Tuesday is full. Special thanks to our sponsors, Silverado Tours of San Luis Obispo and Dr. Scott Robertson of Ventana Health.

In other gossip, word on the street is that Tribune publisher Chip Visci probably should start packing his boxes soon because the new owners intend to replace him. Executive Editor Sandra Duerr, aka the $250,000-a-year-woman, is apparently safe for now. Also, the fate of New Times is being decided this week. Main Street Press, publisher of Good Times in Santa Cruz is trying to buy the paper and is offering a ton of money. We should know the outcome fairly soon.

Finally, I certainly have no crystal ball on local politics, but the one candidate running right now that seems to be getting support is judy Vick of Los Osos. It seems almost everywhere I go, someone brings up her name and does so in a positive way. Not bad for a neophyte candidate.

For those of the Los Osos “Move the Sewer” persuasion, Vick is an impressive candidate. Her sense of calm and expertise in counciling should help the community with their grief in property losses and debt incurred during recent LOCSD actions.

Give me a break, Vick is the mouthpiece of a gender biased group, Emily’s list, that supports candidates based upon their gender. Hello! How is this different than the white supremecy movement! What is the difference between Emily’s list and some group that supports only Christian candidates! Please do not support someone that does not have ideas of her own, but has to go to a class to learn what to say and how to say it to get elected.
